Phasmid: That isn't relevant. TV/ movies etc aren't necessary either, but you still have regulatory oversight for mergers to (theoretically) prevent monopoly positions emerging; and neither is social media for that matter.
And none of what you said is relevant. See? I can do the same thing and pretend that saying such negates what the other person is saying. Silliness aside:
OSs are needed to function in society(some work/etc) more so than games are...and social media is used to get emergency warnings/gov't info/work info/etc. It is akin to the digital public square for many people and is needed much more than games by many people.
TV is regulated not mainly because of monopoly, imo(or we'd see more breakup of the cable and satellite companies) but rather because of moralistic reasons(regulating content for "the children"/etc).
