I just dipped my toe in the waters that are Humble Bundle, and was happy to see that all of the games in my bundle had DRM free versions that could be downloaded via Torrent or web downloader (of course, the fact that two of them were on my wishlist here helped). Now, before I make the leap and subscribe for the monthly bundles... is it worth it? I mean, sure $12 isn't all that much -- even in Indonesia -- but what percentage of games are actually DRM free? Would most of the games available to me be playable on a NVIDIA 940MX? I can't see myself installing the Steam client anytime soon, and a graphics card update isn't going to happen for at least two years.

I think it depends on what's in the bundle. Fanatic has bundles all the time, but most of them are crappy indies and shovelware.

Personally, I don't do bundles. There's already so much backlog material for gamers. Grabbing an extra 5 or 6 games in a bundle just because it's on sale is a bad idea. Usually it's just another 5 or 6 games that you'll never play. I'd rather spend a bit more for 1 game that I want than save a buck for many games I don't.
I'm assuming the bundle you bought was the HIB 20?

The ones named as Humble Indie Bundles are still DRM-free, but for a long time now the vast majority of bundles they run have been extremely Steam focused, with DRM-free versions occasionally included as an afterthought. Given that with the monthly you are effectively buying blind, I would recommend against it if getting DRM-free versions matters to you.

If you have no intention of installing Steam, I'd suggest skipping Humble Monthly, as the vast majority of games are only available as Steam keys. The previous monthly had a whooping 3 out of 9 games available as DRM-Free direct downloads and even that was better than the average.

Right, the Indie bundle. I had Among the Sleep already, but the other two lowest tier games were on my wishlist (even though I'm not sure The First Tree runs on this laptop).

Ouch. Let me guess: the three games that are already at GOG?

But smaller bundles are generally more DRM-free friendly, right? All seven of the HIB20 games seem to be DRM-free, at least from their thumbnails.

I'm pretty underwhelmed by this bundle. Any gems in there?

The only reason to subscribe to Humble Monthly would be the Humble Trove: https://www.humblebundle.com/monthly/trove but I don't think that's worth $12 each month.

I wish they offered something to get access to the trove without the Steam stuff.

Agree about the Trove. Especially since I've got most of the games that interest me here already (and a few further games are wishlisted)..

Yup, that's correct.

I'd like to say yes, but there is no rhyme or reason with the bundles. There is no guarantee that the next bundle will contain a direct download and won't instead be full of Steam keys.

If you are looking for DRM-Free stuff outside GOG, you can give the Humble Store a try:
https://www.humblebundle.com/store/search?sort=bestselling&drm=download

It does have stuff that GOG doesn't and by wishlisting a game, you can get an e-mail when it is discounted.

Oh, that's a neat feature... a filter for DRM. Thanks!

I may be wrong, but I think the numbered bundles called "Humble Bundle X" have a tradition of being 100% DRM-free. The same can't be said for all the other Humble bundles though, big or small. The Humble Monthly bundles mostly have games that are rather recent and/or AA or AAA, which makes them more likely to require Steam. But there are often Steam only entries in the smaller indie bundles, too. You'll have to check for every bundle individually.

See my previous post, the Humble Indie Bundles are 'guaranteed' to be DRM-free, for everything else Humble runs, DRM-free is the exception.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification.

Well, at the very least they have The Stanley Parable in their store, DRM-free, so that's wishlisted. Odd we don't have it here.

It was for a while Steam only. I have a feeling it was included in a Humble Indie Bundle, which would mean that Humble would require a DRM-free version from the devs. It's likely that the devs don't feel like there would be enough extra revenue at that point to justify putting it here as well.
