MAYBE this thread can be of some help: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_galaxy_for_windows_xpvista_patch

Why not install the service pack?!!!?!?! It is a huge security risk and stability problem to not have it. Maybe you have problems getting it to install? Windows Updater is one of my pet objects of hatred as it stinks but I will help if you have problems with it.

This. If you're have issue with it installing you can grab a cumulative version from the MS website and install it manually. That usually works better than Windows update.
Aye! What BKGaming says, worked for me.
If your problem is that your Windows copy is not quite paid for properly, I suggest LinuxMint 18.2 as I think it is the easiest Linux to start with. I cannot really suggest paying full price for a Windows 10 license if the computer is from before W7 SP1 came out unless you cough up for a transferrable license, which I do not even know if they exist anymore. Those used to cost like €270 but no idea now.

Of course, there is no Galaxy for Linux yet.... someone must have forgot to make it.

So, one would need WINE https://www.winehq.org/download if using Linux.
