Breja: I wrote those two paragraphs because you implied that Dune having been influenced by earlier works somehow invalidated it's influence on others.
Oh, I certainly did not. But in the interest of fairness I did go back to double-check. No, your failure to understand here is just your own.

I said if you see Dune, it's because you do not know there were other sources to draw from, or because you want to see Dune. Or because you didn't bother to read what Lucas has said about his sources and inspirations. Not that having influences means you cannot influence.

I make references because you're well-read, Breja. Because you'll understand them. And because if someone else has said a thing, I probably can't say it better. Very sorry if it was unclear to you. I'll be simpler in the future; clearer.
I'll remain cautiously optimistic for now. If it's done right it could be incredible. His treatment of the Blade Runner world was very, very good (didn't surpass the original though).

But sorry Breja, I'm going to throw a fit if Russel Crowe and Hugh Jackman is in it :P I've always pictured Duke Leto more along the lines of William Hurt. Gurney Halleck I'm really not sure. And Paul is a tough one as well. Perhaps it's silly but If we could time travel I'd have like to see a young Joaquin Phoenix as Paul and, bear with me, possibly Charles Bronson in his prime as Gurney.

Really? Well, to each their own I guess. I wouldn't cast him as Leto in a thousand years :D

Not that it really matters, the cast will almost certainly be nothing either of us would choose. I think Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier might just be the only instance of fans calling the casting of a popular character.
Liked Arrival well enough, the new Blade Runner was ok. Hope he's going to do a great job with Dune, I really love those novels.

Didn't care all that much about Lynch's movie (although of course, some awesome scenes came out of it), but I quite enjoyed the mini-series. Here's hoping a new movie/trilogy/whatever will do the novels justice.
