THat worked out so great the last time it happened......
The good thing is that they haven't gained a position of power, just some well paid jobs and the possibility to scream loudly in the next years, which is bad enough as it is. But at least now they can be made responsible for what they say. There will be a much higher level of public scrutiny. I expect nothing but fundamental opposition and really crazy ideas from them and I hope this will show to the protest voters (not the hard right core supporters though) that they aren't a viable solution either.
Unfortunately the media is still paying them much more attention than they deserve by right of their voters share. The much more moderate left party ("Die Linke") for example got almost as many votes and nobody, just nobody talks about their ideas. This is actually very bad. It may mean that the left might try to copy the extremism of the right in order to counter it. It's not what I would like to see. The media has to change and has to learn to ignore the cheap provocations from the extremes.
For the foreseeable future I think Germany is safe from any extremist party gaining a position of power. Of course nobody knows how it will develop. I guess political extremism will be one of the big topics of the next decade in many countries.
