And we'll get another game launcher. Yay... :/

Symphony8: Another nail in Steam's coffin? Apparently THQ and Deep Silver are on board.

It's curated, so it seems a bit like a DRM version of GOG.

Things like Bethesda making their own games exclusive is a potential nail in Steam's coffin. This just seems like 'yet another' store. Why is someone going to want to use that store over any other? What's the pull?
They presumably don't have their own integrated anti-cheat system, nor will every multiplayer game they have to automatically connected with Steam matchmaking, I don't really see what they can offer.
Discord, the chat thing for people who don't know about IRC which plays fast and loose with banning groups of people on suspect grounds?

Fuck that.

mechmouse: Have you got confirmation on DRM?

Symphony8: No confirmation on DRM, just an assumtion. I would have thought that if it is DRM free, it would have been an important enough point to mention in the article.

It's being left up to the developers whether or not they want to include DRM with their games.

So like Steam. "Noice".
Over 9000 forms of DRM just weren't enough.
So we needed one more.

...I guess they do want piracy to happen, right?
Wow, so they might actually end up with a way of getting money other than spyware?
Seems like a big waste of time on their part, unless they can offer some massive discounts. Otherwise why even buy from their store?
nothing new - it always happen with market. Selling games always was profitable and, with recent changes of humble, launch of itch and bethesda's own store announcement, on top of steam-related disasters, everybody invests into their little "gabeshop killers" (cant wait for walmart's digital goods store, lol). Similar to how everybody is making battle royales after success of fortnite. And, since discord tried to fit gamers-related niche - it was obvious that they will try to jump on same train.

At the end of day (while one of them may suddenly blast and take over steam's niche. And steam will die or turn into sort of newgrounds/googleplay, which slowly happens right now), most of them will exhaust and, while remain alive, sell only non-exclusive items for people who got used.

They tries to take part of this cake, but with each bite fragmentation will slowly kill them. Nothing new, really

Discord? That bloated Electron app is not even suited for gaming! High latency, low audio quality, zero security, no customizability, huge resource usage and low reliability (server problems often shut down whole regions).

So now we have another store for games. Who's next?
