Enebias: I think Dragon Age Origins wasn't a good game, mostly for one reason (let's supersede the ultra-whiny insufferable Bioware quality™ characters): 95% of battles were against thrash mobs and required no real effort, so you ended leveling up a bit randomly and ditribute skills in a not very focused plan; when you suddenly hit the actually good fights, the ones requiring tactics, you often found yourself severely lacking on all fronts because you built characters to be eclectic and to generally deal fast damage of all types against masses of weak enemies.
The sudden difficulty spikes caught you unprepared, and you had to respec. Bad design.
I think there were just as many quality designed encounters in DA:O as there were in most of the classics. There's a ton of trash mob spam in pretty much every RtwP game, in my opinion. Also I never respec'd in DA:O, in three playthroughs.

I will admit though the Deep Roads was a total slog and probably the worst in the genre.

DA:O is much better solo (as is any of these types of things). It makes battles more tactical, gets rid of the (as usual) annoying Npcs, etc. It’s a far far better game than 2, and inquisition. It’s still pretty good compared to most.

Just got the email from larian, looks like it is progressing to indev. It could be interesting although I didn’t get on with OS 1 and 2 much. Would be interested to know if they will ship the editor with it.

I couldn't disagree more*. The scripted NPCs are the best part of the Bioware games.
The only games to play solo are the Icewind Dale ones. Not that I would, because they'd be a lot harder! (and I don't play games for the "challenge")

There's different kinds of people who play these games. Solo challenges and whatnot are for the people who love designing character builds and maximizing the system's potential and whatnot, while others (like us) are more in it for the story, exploration, etc. Not that I don't like some good tactical RtwP or turn-based combat, because I very much do, but it's not the whole reason I'm playing the game.

Oh I know, It's hard to not notice Dtgreene on this forum. ;-)
I was just thinking that there are plenty of alternative games to play - that focus less on NPC interaction. I guess I'll never know how it is to experience a certain game, while leaving out something I enjoy a lot.
If I want to play a game about navigating some hell dimension without shooting monsters every few seconds... I can't imagine picking Doom and trying to play it without, well, shooting monsters.

I'm not criticising how others enjoy their games / I'm just curious. Maybe I would've related more a long time ago, when I had endless amounts of time, no money, and a total of 5 games to play :-P
I'm super excited!

:P
When I said "I can't imagine", I meant I can't imagine doing that myself. ;-)
Other examples: speed runs, or 100%ing a game.
I'm not surprised by anything... What did you say? Somebody finished all Dark Souls games in 5 minutes using only a feather to kill all enemies? Sure, why not? :-P

Yeah, I understood. I had just seen the video yesterday and had to post it when I saw your comment. :)

Never played a solo run of any of the IE games myself, even if I actually like powerplaying CRPGs ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Impressive timing! :-D
Recently I had watched a video where game developers were watching a guy finishing their game in 12 minutes. The best moments of that video were when the developers said "OH! You can do that?".

Players will always find ways to play the games other than they were intended. :)
