I am looking to explore a Paradox title and decided to go with EU first. I have a strange question though: do these games allow you to "knock off" public figures like politicians or military commanders who you don't like? Most of the kings throughout history cleaned house when they took the throne. It would be a neat, and historically accurate, feature. I have heard that Paradox titles are very complex, so i thought perhaps this option was included also. Thanks :)

I think that's more Crusader Kings, Sengoku and EU Rome thing. Those concentrate more on dynasties/families, retainers and their relationships. They don't play active role in the Europa Universalis series, at least in first three nor in Victoria.

Do you recommend starting with Crusader Kings the first, since it is on GOG? Or go straight for CK2?

Better ask someone else or check some youtube let's plays as I've never played CK2 and it's been too long since I played CK1.

CK2 is only available thru Steam, has bazillion DLC costing an arm and a leg. It probably lot more complex too. What ever you choose, I recommend waiting for sale unless money is burning holes into your pocket.
