This may be a long shot, so please bear with me if this doesn't get resolved initially :D.

Would you be so kind as to tell me what version of Java are you currently using? If I recall correctly, Edna & Harvey The Break Out require the Java Runtime to be installed and I just got a notice from the automatic Java updater about Java 7 Update 11 being ready for download.

Also, what kind of video card are you using and have you updated your drivers for it? Are you by any chance using any beta drivers?

iprigg: I have the latest version java7_u11 installed, and the latest drivers for my card as well. I use the official drivers downloaded from HP's site (released in 2009 if I remember correct. I don't think that something new has been released, I have searched and not found something). My laptop is an HP nw8440 (quite old indeed, but can I don't change it because nowadays you do not find easily laptops supporting 1920x1200 screen resolutions, in reasonable prices), and it has ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 card with 256 ram.
Ignore the statement below if you have already gone to ATI and tried to find drivers for your card :D.

I would recommend going to ATI's site directly instead of relying on your laptop's manufacturer as I have noticed, in my own limited and personal experience with such, that the drivers found on the laptop manufacturer's site tend to be outdated.

Do you have the latest Direct X runtimes for Windows XP?

If none of the above help you, please send a message to our Support department with those screenshots and your DxDiag attached and we'll see what can be done :D.

Anyway, I downloaded and installed the drivers again just in case, but with no success.
My DirectX is also updated.

I had contacted GOG's support in the past for this problem and provided both the dxdiag file and screenshots from the game (referenced ticket number is HH41EPQM), but after 3 weeks they came up with some very general solutions, from which none worked!
I do not know, perhaps it is some kind of incompatibility with my card. The next Enda and Harvey game (New Eyes) seems to work properly though!

iprigg: Well, I download the drivers from the link. However, These drivers were not digitally signed and when installed they didn't seem to fully identify my card. So I didn't got shader 3.0 capabilities as well as resolutions was set to a maximum of 1600x1200, while my laptop supports 1920x1200. In the driver manager my card was recognized as a standard vga card and not an ati one. They were also very slow, probably because they didn't exploit the card's chipset. But the most interesting thing was that the game run perfectly without any distortion!!!! This made me suspicious. So What I did next was to restore the digitally signed drivers but not the latest ones (v8.590.0.0 [13/2/2009]), which I had previous, not even the second latest (8.453.1.2000[27/3/2008]), I restored some very old I had which were dated back to 2/3/2006 (v8.223.4.0). And guess what, now enda plays perfectly without any distortion. I suppose I will keep these drivers until I finished Edna and then go back to the newer again.
So thank you, for your time and dedication, though you didn't indicate the exact solution, your suggestions, provided the trigger for me to "accidentally" solve the problem.
To sum up the correct solution is "Do not install the latest drivers". I do not know why, perhaps it is an older game?
