Increase character limit on reviews
After writing several reviews, I've found I can't really give a full review with less than 3000 characters / 500 words. For people who want to give / read full reviews, 2000 characters (~350 words) is perhaps not quite enough. Could you please increase the limit to at least 3000 characters?
2000 characters for a review is nowhere nearly enough. It's ridiculous. This seems like an arbitrary limitation, as it's not based on logic.
The limit needs to be increased to 10k+ or removed.
Yes, please... at least 5000 characters would be a decent improvement.
goddamit, it's still a thing... i want to post my rewiew and again i'm 2k character shy...

Still waiting on that character limit increase. All the Cyberpunk bugs I want to list don't fit within the 2000 char limit lol
AUGUST 26 2020....
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I could be wrong, but could this be as easy as changing a single number value in the website from X number of characters in a review allowed to X number of characters allowed?
I honestly hands down NO JOKE, need review character limits that are at least a solid 10 times larger than the current limit. I NEED SPACE! MY REVIEWS CAN'T BREATH!!!!!!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Exactly so. I've written a review for greedfall. It's as good as the game (u gotta take my word for it). But i'm 2k characters short to post it!!! Please fix!
July, 2020 checking in. Please increase the limit!
Please, do this! 2000 characters are nothing for a decent review.

also commenting on others reviews would be great. I know lots of people would probably say nasty things to me, but it's just a part of the internet. But also allow me to comment back at them, in case they're telling lies and I need to say "hey! That's not true!" or something. Would make the review section much more in depth and detailed, just more information. Hopefully it can be possible.
I want huge review character count. I have loads of feedback to give, and often I can only include 1% of that in the small review space. :(

Hopefully GOG will one day increase the character limit for reviews to 15000! (and perhaps the character limit for the review title will increase too?)
Or introduce a separate section for long reviews, yes.

a quick and polite post (for visibility in the recent list) so people who sort by most recently are more likely to spot this wishlist item. Just a hopeful attempt at getting more people to notice this wish!
I agree. I'd like the limit to be raised to 6000 characters, or failing that, have a separate section for long reviews.

It seems that when someone posts a comment in a wish page like this, the wish gets sent to the top of the list where it is more visible. I noticed this because I saw others making posts so that their wish was more visible for a short while. I say a short while because even after the wish is at the top of the list, it is quickly sent back down into the dark depths of oblivion by other people giving a +1 or posting another comment in several other wishes, so this visibility benefit is extremely short lived. The only hope a wish has of surviving is if at just the right time, a large group of people who just happen to be those who are interested in the wish just happen to be browsing the community wishlist at the same time that the wish is floating somewhere near the top of the list (and has any remote chance of being visible at all, if ever) or the wish will plunge back into the abyss very quickly. This is really sad because some wishes are simply never noticed and are constantly forever pushed down to the bottom by a constant addition of more and more new wishes. I don't really know what else to do other than post a comment in my wished every once in a while and just hope they are picked up by the community or I fear my wishes may never come true.
review description is also too short and drives me CRAZY!
I can never write a good enough review because I always have to delete more than half of it because the character limit is too short. This is really frustrating because I can't say everything that needs to be said and my reviews can't paint just the right picture I'm trying to illustrate. I want to be honest to people but I can't even mention most of the things that I want so my reviews end up looking like I mentioned a few things, but the story of what I wanted to say is very incomplete. VERY FRUSTRATING!
I also don't like how all my formatting just disappears! Everything I write is turned into a wall of text, and additionally I can't ever hope to go back and edit my reviews if they even do get proper space. I really hope gog.com fixes this. PLEASE!
Yea it's ridiculous. You can't go into any detail. One paragraph is half the review. I don't know why GOG did this. Looking at reviews from 2011 (before the character limit) is more informative than reviews now.
I hope this will be implement in the future. i got like at least 2000+ characters on my review but unable to post it due to the limitations. and i have to keep things short in order to post my review =.=
The current limit is typically just barely long enough to describe all the bad aspects of a game, without any of the good points. My own reviews end up rather unbalanced as a result because I figure pointing out flaws takes priority. Doubling or tripling the limit would still keep reviews fairly concise but allow a more balanced and detailed review of the games. What's the point of a review if it's too short to give accurate information?
This!
I can't believe this has gone on this long without being addressed. It feels annoying when I spend like 40 hours on a game but can't even post 10 tweets worth of characters to describe my experience with it. Its not like text takes up much storage space at all, this is absurd. Plus it would increase the amount of high quality reviews, there's some merit to limiting reviews to being concise but 2,000 is just too small a limit in my opinion....
I think it IS a serious problem. If I had my way, I would increase it to something like 10,000-15,000 characters, but that is just me. 5000-6000 could be a reasonable limit, and what services like Steam already offer. And EVEN THEN I often have to shorten them. Never mind that practically all of them lack the possibility of attaching screenshots and images, which also contributes to make the situation (much) less than ideal.
Another HUGE issue is that we are limited to 40 characters for the description, and that is...woefully inadequate. I have already had to shorten two reviews, and what I was left with was...just a description of what irritated me the most, since this thing is important to me and I usually write it before I even touch the good aspects of a game. Seriously, does a 2000 character limit seem adequate to you? Some of my reviews have this long list of negative aspects, which I still try to keep concise because I HAVE TO anyway...and then like just two or three sentences to describe what I liked the most. Please fix this, it's seriously making the feature not very interesting or helpful.
4000-5000 characters seem like a bare minimum. Like with the current system, not everybody would automatically make use of that capacity. So there would not be much of a change to the average 'reader' - whom we write reviews 'for'.
I tend to want to review games I really really liked, to describe for potential buyers the unique characteristics of the game, what is extra creative, intelligent, ergonomic, intriguing, immersive, fun and satisfying. And what that game's world is like. What I would like to know to see if I might like to buy a game. They are not blue jeans. They are interactive painting/novels/software and virtual worlds. Some games last a lot more than 1 week and massive content or creativity sometimes warrants a good description. The more I read, the more likely I will buy. If the reader is the type only reads nutshells, he wont click on "read more"... If the reader wants to read more, he will. BOTH types buy games, and a lot of us want more description before buying (and will go other places to look up more descriptions. Keep potential buyers in your website. Give us 5000 characters. You can also insert a second "Read more" click for readers. Ascii text takes tiny kilobytes of storage space, and you could do it in a way to accomodate both nutshell types and reader types. Even reddit and amazon do that.
A more robust review system with a higher character limit would certainly motivate me to write reviews for more of the games I purchase.
I don't want to review things with declarative statements like "this is awesome!" I want the space to provide details about the experience that will allow others to make an informed decision of their own about whether or not that particular game is for them.
I was about to start reviewing here on GOG which has become my favourite place for games but I find I can't bring my reviews from elsewhere onto here because I have to edit out anything of substance to get under the tiny character limit.
