Manhattan. New York, New York. 2094

It all started when I met her in her daddy's penthouse apartment. She was going to pay me for a freelance job and, by the way she looked at me, I knew I was in for something extra. But it was more than I bargained for. Much more. First, there was a kiss and then… two fangs punctured the veins on my neck.

High technology meets blackest evil in this cyberpunk vampire adventure. You play the role of Ransom Stark, an ex-corporate hacker and mercenary who's been transformed into a vampire - and wants revenge. To rid yourself of this curse, you must brave the streets of 21st-century Manhattan, where gangs, mercenaries, and cyberpunks rule. More, you must plumb the secrets of the bizarre virtual reality of Cyberspace as you combat both the vampires and the TransTechnicals megacorporation, the company that owns the cybernet. How long can you last before you give in to the thirst for blood?
  • BloodNet is a sophisticated, hard-hitting game with mature content that surfs the edge of popular culture... and beyond.
  • Experience dark urban high-tech future, ruled by oppressive mega-corporations and cybernetics.
  • Recruit cyberpunks, rage gangers, mercenaries, and hackers to aid your fight against the vampires.
  • Immerse yourself in the bizarre virtual reality of Cyberspace, where anything is possible.

Nostalia Free Honesty

Here's my honest thoughts on why you should avoid the game like the plague. And I'm going to do it right, and give you some very tangible reasons. Let's see...The controls are a disasterous confusing mess that seem to be set up in a way to require you to have the manual(For example, you press the O key to accept.) Bonus points for making some options in the menu do jack squat! The dialogue is BEYOND clunky, and it goes on and on and on, making it a title with some of the worst conversations I've had with conversations in any game. Oh, and I honestly cannot understand how anyone could ever like the main character. Oh, and there's a lot of moments in this game where you'll see these screenshots, and not only do the characters not even REMOTELY look like their sprites, but they tend to look almost entirely alike, which is uber creepy when you see females. There are many games on this website that have aged extremely well. This one however was a gigantic mess to begin with. Unless you want to just get disgusted by how bad this game is, I cannot recommend against it enough.

Needs patience...

I want to like this game, but the user interface is a pain to figure out. You *need* the manual, and even then it's painful. Moving the mouse is annoying. Figuring out what keys to press is annoying. The spoken dialogue is low-res and has no subtitles. For my part, I gave up after an hour or so. If I had more patience in figuring all of this out I might enjoy this game, but right now, I'm just too old for this, and I have better things to do than spend hours figuring out how to play a game.

This is taking forever

If you have a problem with spoken English without subtitles because you aren't very proficient in the language or because you have a hearing deficiency, don't bother. The dialog is horrible, there is no subtitles to what they're saying and they talk like they're about to fall asleep since not only do they draw out every word, they have an annoying echo on the background and the music is 5 tones on repeat. Said music is way too loud and makes it harder for you to understand the characters. The controls are wonky, I suggest taking the manual on another screen because it doesn't give any hints at all. It's also an older style adventure, so grab your notepad to write down any goals or information. The Graphics are pretty meh, even for an old game. Characters are nothing more than a few blurry silhouettes with an occasional image now and then to mix it up. Most of the action is you looking at 2 silhouettes while 2 portraits appear on your screen and audio plays on the background. The story however is decent, and it might interest you, but the way conversations are executed and how slow this game feels, I just can't finish it without feeling bored. If you can look past that, this is a good game to pass the time, but don't go expecting an adventure of the year (of release). Character creation is rather robust however, there are a lot of stats, and you generate a character via answering questions (although it mostly boils down to technician, soldier or well spoken businessman).

Mixed feelings

On one side this game has one of the best settings you'd want for a game: B-rate plot, cyberpunk and vampires. But the elephant in the room is the dialogues and especially the voice acting. The lines are cheesy as hell, yet they'd still could pull this off with decent amount of over the top acting, but... the actors are typical for what you'd expect for a 90s budget title (especially the main character). You know this 'perfect' mix between 'oh, I should try really hard', 'what the hell I'm even doing here?' and low quality recording. I'd still recommend to try it, since it's pretty cheap.

Vampires and cyberpunk, oh my!

Bloodnet is one of those rather unique PC games to be released back in the 90's with its mixture of supernatural and cyberpunk elements. You play as the hacker Ransom Stark who at the start of the game is approached by a mysterious and beautiful women who offers him a huge amount of cash in exchange for him erasing some rather sensitive data on the women and her father. He does the job and comes to her apartment but he quickly discovers that he more or less stepped into a trap as the women and her father turn out to be vampires and Ransom ends up being bitten by the woman's father. However when Ransom wakes up, he discovers that he isn't the vampire's mindless slave and he escapes, but now he must try and find a way to cure himself of the vampire curse AND also stop the vampires from taking over the city and possibly the world. The game imposes a time limit on you in the form of a cybernetic implant that Ransom has that is doing its best to slow down the vampiric transformation, but its draining a lot of power in the process. But Ransom must still feed himself some blood or else he will die, that is something the implant couldn't get rid of. Ransom must try and recruit fellow hackers in order to combat the vampires and dregs that roam in New York while also getting better guns and armor for the team and himself while also searching through cyberspace for any glues on how to beat the vampires and perhaps gain more allies to aid him in the battles. One annoying thing however about this version of the game is that the text for any dialogue you might have isn't turned on unless you turn the speech off. Aside from that and the rather clunky controls and interface, it still is an interesting little gem of a game with its setting and foes you will be fighting.
