A good start for a promising concept
Giving this 5/5 with the thought that this is an early demo and not the final product. The ideas and early implementation is quite good. There are some things to add and other things that need to be ironed out. It succeeds perfectly at giving the player a satisfying taste of what the final product can be, and it does not struggle to run effectively. A few points: + It seems that the game will blend the playstyles of more regiment-focused RTS games like Company of Heroes & Ancestors Legacy with the open-world party activities of a Wartales / Battle Brothers / Iron Oath / Low Magic Age. In my short time trying a few things out, the basic gameplay loop seems very promising. + The artstyle for the maps and creatures is excellent - reminiscent of the Witcher-verse in some ways. + As a fan of tactical pause in RTS titles, I can say that thus far the slo-mo mode works sufficiently for that purpose. + UI for player selection/movement, activation of combat abilities, and otherwise managing combat is smooth. + The story presented is decent to give you the backdrop - though I personally don't need a lot of heavy flavour in these types of games, as it's nice to let your own stories develop by taking on missions, engaging with the environment, helping / betraying the populace, etc. Wishlist for v1.0: - I fully expect that there will be the ability to rebind keys in the final version, which should include the ability to zoom in/out with they keyboard so it's intuitive and fluid to do so without a mouse. The zoom levels themselves in the game are good and worked well with a mouse. - I liked that units were vulnerable to flanking and backstabbing, but hopefully the devs are also planning on having some characters be able to deal damage to enemies who disengage from them in melee. Tying this to a trait or perk would be nice, also. - I also fully expect that the game will use less resources as it nears release. Currently, the Unreal Engine is really putting pressure on my gaming rig when I run it with a number of quality settings turned off/down. - The maps seem quite good to start with - there are some things already to account for on the battlefield, which is a very nice beginning. Hopefully there will be some additional things added such as foliage or shadows to hide in / ambush from, differences in elevation, swamps that inhibit movement / dodge abilities, etc. All in all, a good impression was made and this is going on my watch list. Look forward to more developments.
