SystemShock7: .
What? Now I have to explain it to you ? I can do the same thing as you and tell you "read what was posted, it is in front of you", but ok, I'll recap it for you..
I posted the following:
"... But hey, dialogs are the biggest consumers of disk space, and they needed to fit the game in an xbox disk :) " , albeit, mocking the xbox release.
You decided to chime in stating "dialogs take hardly any space", which is not the case as proven by the size of the speech files in ~WItcher2/CookedPC, as I originally stated. You did go to the directory and looked up the size of the sounds sub-directory and used that data in an attempt to prove your erroneous statement, but sounds files are not the speech files. I pointed you to the right files so you can see they are not tiny and that your statement is incorrect.
rocsen: "... But hey, dialogs are the biggest consumers of disk space, and they needed to fit the game in an xbox disk :) "
Really, biggest part? Yeah, I see that now. Taking up 20% of the ENTIRE game in three different languages. There's something fundementally wrong with your calculation.
I still can't believe you were trying to get me to post the folder size to prove YOUR point, and when I refused you called me an ass. What the ...?
I say it again, if you're trying to prove a point, prove it. Don't get me to post the size when you already had the answer. The sheer arrogance in that is beyond me.
Maybe if you just posted the size of those files to begin with without trying to be a smart ass we wouldn't have this discussion.
And in fact you haven't proved anything. The bulk of those speech files sizes would be the main dialogues between Geralt and others .I still stand by my statement that a short sentence would be less than 200kb in size. By adding just a few extra lines for random folks in towns, it won't make a big difference at all. The bulk of those speech files sizes would be the main dialogues between Geralt and others. So until you can prove me wrong, I suggest you move on.
.
For the last time, I reiterate, the original statement I made was a bit of a hyperbole, mocking the xbox release.
In any case, the fact is, dialogs take a good chunk of disk space, and this fact is very obvious once you look at the speech files in the game, which I pointed out. I didn't want you to post the files sizes, just to look at them and see for yourself. After all, you where able to go look at file sizes in the first place, no?
Whether a short sentence is about 200kb in size, or any size, is irrelevant . I did not make any statements on the size of one line of dialog. I made a statement on the entirety of the speech files included in the game. What's in the speech files and that there are 3 different languages is irrelevant as well; the fact of the matter is, the speech files are included in the disk and constitute about about 20% of the game
On a side note, 200kb for one line of spoken dialog would be quite large. They are more in the 50kb range, plus another 10kb or so for the lip file.
