I know the music issues mean that unless I make some workarounds with the disc image, it will only work with the DOSBox version.

However, I actually don't mind playing that version of quake. However, I don't know if I'm being stupid here, but it seems gog.com has not made an easy-to-launch file for the game. Which means I have to open dosbox and mount the image and access it from that console.

Is there an easier way to do this? Or will I have to continue to type in quake.exe from my dosbox console every time I want to run quake?

Does what I'm saying even make sense?
There is a shortcut to 'Software Mode' in Start Menu and GOG Galaxy both.

Just to let you know that using the gog supplied software mode launcher has a great impact on performance. Must be some sort of setting you have done in dosbox. When opening it manually (by manually mounting the disc image in the standalone dosbox I have no framerate issues at all until 1024x768. But using the gog software mode launcher I can't play higher than 320x240.

There's another post in the forum where other people have the same issues.
Actually I've sorted that now! Someone on the higher res thread posted a useful link for people having issues. All's working fine and dandy!

I can get to a decent level of performance by adjusting the cycles, but there is a problem with the music in software mode. The title music plays fine, but once I start the game and a level loads, there is no music.
