JudasIscariot: I haven't had the chance to play too many games other than Subterrain because I am trying to find all kinds of bugs in Wine so that I can contribute towards DirectX 10/11 being supported more in Wine :)

Plus Subterrain is kinda fun and is rather addictive and now runs rather well in Wine, just needs "glsl=disabled" in winetricks and you are good to go :)

On top of that I am learning how to co-opt Arch's PKGBUILD scripts to have them compile versions of Wine for me with WOW64 support :D
That's a great game. The description alone left me speechless:

Суровые механики вышивания.
Just... wow. Hardcore sewing is definitely something I haven't tried yet. :-D

Not to start a holy war or anything, I'm actually genuinely curious: why did you choose Arch?

Заманчивое предложение. Даже почти досадно отказываться.

It's not eactly Arch, it's actually which is Arch but without the [url=https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_guide]Arch install process. What that means is I get all the benefits of Arch without all the godforsaken hassle :D Also, Antergos basically uses all the Arch repositories without any alteration from the distro's developers.

Why did I choose Antergos? Keep in mind that I have used Mint for a few years and I was rather faithful to the distro but always got annoyed at things either breaking or not being kept up to date until the next release. I chose Antergos because I get the following:

1. A rolling distro with regular updates for all software. Keep in mind that everything in the Core gets tested before being released so you have some guarantee that everything works once you upgrade.

2. I get access to Wine and Wine Staging with WOW64 support AND all the additional Wine configuration options (pulseaudio and the like) without having to learn how to compile Wine with WOW64 support. (here's how WOW64 support works when compiling: https://wiki.winehq.org/Building_Wine#Shared_WoW64 ) Also, pacman allows me to easily switch between Wine and Wine Staging with a couple of clicks.

3. I don't have to use third party PPAs to get the simplest of things like Nvidia drivers or Wine or anything else. You want to see how many dead Wine PPAs there are for Mint/Ubuntu? Just google "Wine PPA" and you will see what I mean.

4. I am also partial to the distro because it saved my butt when I accidentally removed ALL of my Linux installs (be careful when using partitioning tools and forgetting to check which drive has what designation ...) and the only thing I had left was a USB with Antergos on it (I was planning on trying it but in a more controlled manner) and my smartphone. I set my smartphone as a wireless hotspot, configured my wireless card using wifi-menu and I managed to get a decent enough net connection to be able to use the Antergos net install USB to get back up and running :D

5. Pacman is so much better than anything apt-get can do. Sorry but that's what I think :P

6. The PKGBUILD scripts are great because you can easily modify one if you need to. I did that with a patched version of Wine where I submitted a bug report, someone offered a patch for the problem I reported, I patched the Wine source, modified the PKGBUILD script to point at the source on my hard drive and away it went without me having to think about anything :D

7. It just werks :D

Lots of good points here. Some I have on my current distro (Fedora), some are probably good to have, but I make do without (pacman, for example. dnf does the trick for me). And point seven makes it crystal clear that the distro you're using is a good one. :-)
BTW thanks for helping fix and improve WINE, that neat little tool helps me run quite a lot GOG games on my laptop with minimal effort.

On a side note, did you try using your smartphone as a USB modem? That might actually be faster than setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot. Well, you have to keep the phone and PC/router/whatever it is you're hooking it to within USB cable's reach, but that's the only downside I can think of.

Wifi-menu is a LOT easier to use than trying to configure a USB LTE modem via the command line plus my phone was set up as a wireless point with an LTE connection so it was quite speedy :)

I tried Fedora, btw, but I could not get past two things:

They will not use closed drivers like Nvidia.

Anytime I compiled Wine it would get installed into something/something/opt and no matter what I did I could not get it to install where *I* prefer Wine to be installed and that is in usr/bin.

Other than that, if you have specific needs that do not include Wine the way I need it, Fedora is a great OS :)

As for imrpoving and fixing Wine, well, I am not sure I am helping all that much but it's nice knowing that my Subterrain report helped to get a previously unimplemented function in d3dcompiler_47 implemented :D

Dune.
