AMD are going bankrupt, so no surprise they are selling most of the hardware inside the new consoles, they are probably selling it for a tiny slither of a profit just to get the contract.
Xbox One: a console so shit-specced that Microsoft needs a pretty powerful PC system to make the games look a lot better than how they will look when on the market :-P

Don't write the obituary just yet. Their Q1 2013 looks better than the last quarter and hopefully they'll get a boost from selling the console kits. I really don't want to see Chipziila (Intel) as the only x86 CPU maker. We're already seeing pitiful gains in performance from Sandy Bridge to Haswell. This what lack of real competition means.

Probably, buying ATI was one of the best moves they made, but it's one drop in an ocean of stupid ones (like selling off the fabs for quick money)

That said I don't see myself using AMD kits any time soon since their support for Linux is quirky, especially when it comes to video cards. But hey, I'm just one dude with "special" needs :)

Well to be fair they have probably just grabbed whatever they've had and put it there, I wouldn't go looking for any deeper meaning in that department.

I never said it would happen overnight, but in the long term they are doomed. Compared to Intel their CPU's are just pure rubbish. I don't see how AMD can recover when they are so hopelessly behind Intel in terms of raw processing power.

Yeah, microsoft probably can't afford to buy and build PCs specially for E3.

The answer is just that: for some reason, they thought Nvidia cards are better for previewing their games. I don't say it's a scandal, absurd, or anything.

It's just FUNNY :P

Would you build a PC especially for E3 when you've got perfectly fine machines ready to do the job? 'cause if you would, I wouldn't allow you to lead any bigger company. Ever.

LOL, dude.

All major companies, probably most of the lesser ones, make game builds especially for a specs chosen for E3. What kind of specs will be used on preview machines is chosen weeks ahead, probably months, to give devs time to tweak the builds. If Microsoft just "took what they had", some of the builds could DON'T WORK AT ALL or crash all the time.

It's the biggest fucking expo of the year (maybe gamescon is just as important). You better drop some fucking money to do it right.

You know, they buy banners, ads, and other shit especially for E3. To build a couple of Pcs for that occasion is a drop in an ocean.

Well yes, to tweak the game for PCs that were chosen for E3 makes sense, to build new machines for it... Not really. But I suppose you actually work in one of those companies to be an authority on the issue :-P

Yeah, I guess working for a minor software company suddenly made you an expert bigger than anyone else, so... :P

All I said it's FUNNY they chose NVIDIA cards instead of AMD for their E3 builds. It's nothing more than a hilarious situation ;P

II have just as much "evidence" they are buying new machines to present the games on E3 as you claiming they take their Pcs from their offices.

It's not like they would need them for entire E3 week to, I don't know, work on a game.

You said "they just take what they have" and that would be the most ridiculous thing ever. Probably half of the games wouldn't even work.

They buy and build machines especially for E3 months ahead. They test the build they have through and through to make everything right vs. "they just take what they have in handy".

The "evidence" I have is the machines used by Microsoft at E3 were NOT devkits. This is what journalists say.

You know, if all of the games were running on PCs than mabye this is confirmation that Metal Gear Solid 5 will arrive on PCs :D

Why does that matter? If anything, it shows the portability of the platform... now that the architecture has been switched to x86.

That may not be an ideal message for MS to be sending right now. As it stands the new system is trying hard to be a 'me too!" system that does stuff already being done. If consoles are reaching to point where quality porting is somewhat trivial then that is one more thing the Xbone is doing that something else could be, and serves to make PC's more relevant instead of consoles. The x86 transition is kinda cool for the consumer, and developers, but it's probably a mixed bag for Sony and MS.

Right now the new Xbox really just looks like a high quality version of things we already have, and I'm not really sure why I should want one.
