I just got it on PS3, and man is it fun. It turns out that some of it plays like an RPG; After your first battle, you're given a map through where you can free-roam and complete objectives. At least, it looks that way. The gunplay is fun, and though I haven't got access to the paranormal powers yet, I'm having a lot of fun.
So you're free to explore Germany?

Heh, not quite, but that would be pretty awesome if you could. Think The Darkness.
I've never played The Darkness before. Would you say the scope is like GTA, or more like Gothic? Or any other comparison?

I would compare it more to Deus Ex as far as how the game world is handled. Certainly not as big as Gothic or GTA.
as long as it delivers in the gameplay department...
Good to hear! :D
whoa whoa wait...its out TODAY!
This game is by Raven Software, who made the likes of Jedi Outcast and X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Uncaged Edition; it being awesome is no surprise to me. :)
I hope there will be a demo or something so I can give it a go at some point.
I'am I right in thinking its running on the Doom 3 engine?(modified?)

There should be a demo, as the version I played at Quakecon had the first level modified to include your Veil powers right off the bat.
Be prepared to do some shooting. A LOT of shooting. I mean, I know it's an FPS, but even for a game of that genre you do an extreme amount of shooting. As you move from hub to hub, before you even go in a mission, you'll fight a bunch of Nazis. Which is fine for me, but you start to grow restless if you do it for too long, so you should probably try not to run through it in one go.
My younger brother thinks Nazis armed with supernatural weapons is the "dumbest sh**t" he's ever seen or heard. He clearly doesn't remember playing Wolfenstein 3D when he was seven and loving it.

I haven't heard of or seen one, unfortunately...I'd really like one, too.
So are there any interesting features combat wise or is it a fairly standard FPS in that regard?

Well, there's a power you charge up called the Veil, which lets you walk through certain walls (like Prey), slow down time (several games), shoot through walls, and generate a shield. Fairly standard stuff, but you start to depend on them heavily.
just rented it...
I'm now at the farm in the underground lab with the crystals. You get infinite veil juice just standing there and no monsters to bug you, so i'm sitting there for 2 hours, it's an easy way to get the achievement :P
