You're wrong, you're badly wrong.... the Windows Vista/Seven core is DRM AT ITS BONES, with technologies like Protected Media Path to route multimedia fluxes through a completely secure (and closed) route within the system, and much more.....
Vista sucks so badly (and so will be Seven, because they are the same thing at their core, leave it or live with it) just because of this: Microsoft finally sold its ass to the majors. End of the story.
The StarForce driver didn't install simply because it's a non plug-and-play service, it installs itself in a way that normal users and windows applications won't remove it so easily. That's it, this finding is not interesting at all. It simply demonstrates that the videogame industry assholes will have to update their shitware, nothing more, nothing less....
We're just being funny here, we know that Windows isn't hating the DRM, it's just incompatible. Take a joke.

^^That.
Instead of harshing the mellow, you should chill out and join in the fun. Find yourself an extra hard drive, put the Win 7 RC on it, then start throwing things at it to see what sticks. After all, if you are going to slam MS and their latest OS, you should really know what it is you are slamming.
And speaking of throwing things at it to see what sticks...
I also have a copy of a TAGES protected version of Darkstar 1. This one got a slightly different, and funnier, error (see attached), but applying an update from TAGES seems to have corrected it. Now if only I had any SecuROM 7 games...

cogadh: So I'm playing with the Win 7 release candidate and decided to give one of my oft-unused StarForce protected games (TOCA Race Driver 3) a shot. Win 7 didn't like it one bit (see attached).

Maybe this will prompt companies that released some StarForce-protected games to just remove the StarForce DRM-check, when you decide to boot the game from the disc drive and all.
All games should have their DRM-checks removed in a patch at a later said date when the game just ain't selling anymore, anyways. There's no need to protect a game with DRM-checks anymore if the game isn't selling many copies anymore and if the game ain't selling anymore at its full original retail price of say $40+ or more.

rumor has it, if tages isn't working, parts of your game may be broken.

It ain't no rumor, that's what TAGES does. However, it appears (so far) that the update I applied has corrected any TAGES issues, but the game has its own issues outside of TAGES on Win 7. I can't change the game resolution without crashing it, for example.

That's crummy.
Even more reason for companies that use Tages to patch DRM-checks out of their games.
Hmmm...Does anybody say have STALKER: Clear Sky or any other Tages-supported games working on Win 7 RC?

Mine Stalker: Clear Sky on Steam is working. But they removed Tages from it I think.

I have the retail edition (USA) of STALKER: Clear Sky, which has Tages.
I wonder if that version will work on Win 7 RC.
