As for people pressing the "+1", well it's harder to judge. For example my wife pressed the +1 because I wasn't at my computer and she wanted to give me more time. Lol, 1 second more, but I did buy the game, so that's cool :)
Then of course people trolling with +1. I'm sure there would be some pressing that button for Keane also :)). Not so cool, but funny.
Finally people pressing "+1" to give other people a chance to see promo.... Oh Please! Just as easily you might push someone's favorite years into the time when he/she would be sleeping so way to go! Kudos for that! Other people might be entitled but they have a stake in it so to speak, you are making a decision for others, that doesn't affect you. Ego much? I mean press whatever buttons you like, personally I don't give a damn, but don't come on all high a mighty here.

Promos that discourage sleep or employment don't really sit right with me.

For me the sale works perfectly when each game stays for about two and a half hours. That way I don't have to stare at the screen the whole time and I only miss two games when I go to sleep (I sleep about six hours each night this week). If the game is gone in one hour, I would miss many, many more. So for me using the +1 button is the right thing.

The key to feeling empowered is to wait til the last second to act.
I've personally ended two sales and doubled the length of another.

I don't see a point to letting users add or subtract seconds from a sale. Does it really make a difference if thanks to a bunch of people, a sale is available for another 5 minutes? They should let us add or subtract minutes.

Actually i think it's kinda fun seeing how the time goes up or down depending on the game.
What does it really matter if the sales ends slower or faster ?
I'll admit though i'm selfish i click -1 on all offers even if i bought one because i want to see the next one :P.

Every sale would last one or two minutes, as the "currently not interested in this game, maybe the next one more" people overwhelms, by definition, the "currently in the process of buying it" crowd. Seconds incrementations moderate these snowball effects, and give games a chances to stay displayed for a while even if a majority of people has no interest in seeing it still there (more than a majority, as being interested in buying it is a very momentary status).

Pushing my taste over other people? Yup, totally, but it's what you do every time you recommend a game/movie/book, after all :)

Personally, I can't see much point in adding or removing seconds. I'd much rather it be stated that each game be on sale for a set time (say 2 or 3 hours for this particular sale where they want to push through a number of titles). That way I would know when I next need to check back on the site to see what the new deal is.
Yes I am aware that this is the same method used by Steam what with their daily deals (currently new deal every 24 hours, each deal lasts for 48 hours) and their sale deals (new deal every 8 hours), but that works for me and I don't worry that I've missed out on something.

Whoa... I just noticed, after reading this post... now when the time changes, a little floaty window rises from the time bar with the amount (like "-1" or "+3" etc.) Did this do that before? I think it must be new today, or I'm just not very observant.
It's kinda like watching a martial arts game, with the damage to your "health" floating off the screen! :)
At first I thought you could tell if somebody hits the +1 if you see an even-numbered change. But not necessarily. For example, +2 might be a combination of (somebody buying the game automatic +3) + (somebody hitting the -1 button) at the same time.
