Leroux: you're trying to influence how many people will see an that you like, for a game that in your opinion deserves it).
Why, of course. Isn't that the whole point of this sale? To keep the games you like up so other people get them too?

If it was up to me, Deus Ex will never go out of promo and be kept featured on the time machine until the ends of time itself.
Obviously the sale is moving very slowly because the games are actually selling (good!) but knowing that perhaps a few minutes get added to the excruciating wait for the next game because of upvotes is ruining the experience a little. I know, it is really petty, but I can't help feeling the wasted seconds.

This sale is only marginally better than the insomnia sale from a customer point of view, if only because it is more predictable. If you don't want the current game, expect the next one to go one sale after 2-3 hours. Don't waste your time staring at the screen expecting drastic changes.

The Insomnia sale was more involving and exciting because you didn't know how little time there was to check the current game and make a decision, but that's kind of how scratch tickets are marketed too: They present themselves as exciting but in practice the customer only wants to win big, not the thrill of scratching the ticket. Same thing with GOG sales, us customers are not looking for the "buying experience", we just want more games.

I'm not sure I'll follow this sale for much longer, I have free and alone time for once and would rather spend it actually playing games. Good luck to all of you who still participate! Oh, and be considerate to GOG and your fellow GOGers: Don't add meaningless seconds to the countdown unless you're doing so with your wallet.

Telika: I'm frightened by the egocentrism of all these "i've seen the sale, skip it SKIP IT NOW IT HAS SERVED ITS FUNCTION AS I MYSELF HAVE SEEN IT".

I add a second to games that deserve to be displayed longer, to reduce (of, omg, one second) the chance of someone interested missing it.
avatar
Leroux: Xaromir does have a certain point though. You don't know for sure that adding seconds will be any more beneficial to other people than subtracting them, in the end you can't directly really influence how many people will see or miss an offer they like (and if anything, you're trying to influence how many people will see an that you like, for a game that in your opinion deserves it).
Let's face it, if you consider a vast amount (as in gog customers) of people, adding time just make it more likely for people to profit from the sale, maybe not in your timezone, but certainly in any other.
As I understand it, there is no time limit, it will end when the world will run out of people willing to use their +1, so why the rush ?

Telika: I'm not the only one, others increase the staying time of games they think deserves more visibility, and it's perfectly fine.

And no, it's not a good point : a blink-and-you'll-miss-it offer has less chances to be seen and benefitted from than one that stays for a little while. These "RAARHHH SKIP THE GAME THAT I'VE ALREADY SEEN" come from people who happen to be at the right place in the right minute (to see the offer and its "what's next"), and can't think or care about people who aren't.
Well, I didn't say you were the only one and I didn't say it's wrong to do it, I only questioned that it makes anyone morally superior to those who press the - button. Besides, you're blowing things a bit out of proportion, speaking about "blink" and "minutes" when so far I believe all offers have lasted at least for an hour, not just because people press +, but because of people actually purchasing the game.

Yes, I'm just saying it doesn't make you a better and less self-centered person than the ones who press -. ;)

That doesn't cut it! There should be millions of Raisin Bombers covering the whole world, throwing free physical copies of Deus Ex out on parachutes so every man, woman and child in the world will get Deus Ex!

My moral judgement isn't really on those who click -1 (especially if it's a judgement on the game more than a "let this sale be about ME" impatience), but on those who post to complain about those who click +1. And who claim to "suffer" because some offer lasts more than minutes.

Unfortunately, my budget limitations constrain me to stuff like this -> 5TF8-GCAC-P667-ETDY

But I'll back the kickstarter for the Raisin Bombers.

Telika: They basically want a 30-sales-in-one-hour promo run, and of course, assume that it would happen during that hour where they're in front of the screen.
That would indeed be beneficial to all, provided the offers kept repeating for a whole day or two, because that way, you'd only have to spend one hour of your time thinking about the sales. ;)

Or they could just put all games on sale at the same time for a couple of days, so you can jump in, get what you want, and jump out in a few minutes. That would be the most convenient. However, GOG (and most other online stores) seem to believe, mistakenly or not, that sales with meta-games or timed work better for them. They want us thinking about their sale for a long period of time. And with that in mind, I prefer to miss 4 games while sleeping than missing 10.

With that in mind we should probably prefer to miss 30 instead of playing along and proving them right. Oh, well, willpower ... ;)

Xaromir: What do you get out of that? Once a new game is on you have a set period of time to buy it if you are interested, why make that longer, and torture those who aren't?
avatar
Telika: By "those who aren't", you mean you ?

I'm frightened by the egocentrism of all these "i've seen the sale, skip it SKIP IT NOW IT HAS SERVED ITS FUNCTION AS I MYSELF HAVE SEEN IT".

I add a second to games that deserve to be displayed longer, to reduce (of, omg, one second) the chance of someone interested missing it. But yeah I get your point. I hope next sale will have a vote button, that allows to end the offer if more than 5 people (or maybe just you) have no interest in it. That would hopefully minimise your agony.
I simply assume that there are others who rather skip to the next one if not interested, rather than staring 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a game they don't care about. I assume this because it makes sense to me. I do this while questioning the point of the system. You are the one who comes around to bluntly insult me and add nothing to the discussion. Did I hurt your feelings? If so I invite you to sod off.

Xaromir: Did I hurt your feelings?
Yes. Stop torturing me.
Game up longer == available to more potential buyers.

Game up shorter == more games available to people paying attention.

Both have merits!
The '72 U.S. Men's Olympic Basketball Team has been asking this question for decades.
Well the people pressing the "-1" button, entitled and in a hurry as they may be, at least they are making that decision for themselves (it affects others, true). People buying and giving +3 are "voting with their wallets" (awesome!!!).

As for people pressing the "+1", well it's harder to judge. For example my wife pressed the +1 because I wasn't at my computer and she wanted to give me more time. Lol, 1 second more, but I did buy the game, so that's cool :)
Then of course people trolling with +1. I'm sure there would be some pressing that button for Keane also :)). Not so cool, but funny.
Finally people pressing "+1" to give other people a chance to see promo.... Oh Please! Just as easily you might push someone's favorite years into the time when he/she would be sleeping so way to go! Kudos for that! Other people might be entitled but they have a stake in it so to speak, you are making a decision for others, that doesn't affect you. Ego much? I mean press whatever buttons you like, personally I don't give a damn, but don't come on all high a mighty here.
