My one is me, drawn by me in pixel form. Unfortunately, transparent gifs don't seem to work so well as avatars, so I'm shrouded in black that disguises my hair.
I literally just changed mine 10 minutes ago, and the one I had earlier was of a Canon F1, which is a camera that I find to be an absolute delight to shoot with.

I figured I should have a more site-appropriate avatar, so I changed it to the No One Lives Forever 2 cover since the NOLF series is my favorite series.
My avatar is a pixelated jetman, the main character from the 1993 DOS game Jetpack, which is a great 2D small scale platformer in the vein of Lode Runner and Jumpman, best known for its level editor, which was responsible for TONS and TONS of user made levels that were made available all over the internet, which made owning Jetpack quite worthwhile at the time, and the gameplay never really had to end, even after beating all 100 of the main levels. Discovered this classic back in 2009 on ClassicDOSGames.com, and ever since then it's been one of my all time favorite PC games. Good levels, cool sounds (if a bit laughable), great gameplay and a superb level editor. And now it's freeware too, so go to Classic DOS Games or AdeptSoftware.com, download it, load it up in DOSBox, have fun, and thank me later.

So anyway, that's my avatar. The pixelated rocketman in search of his green gems. Just did a quick and dirty job in GIMP with one of its pre-made patterns as a background.

The 8- bit rocketman. That's me!

It's the main character from Equinox (Solstice2), bad pic.
Oh well, it will do for now.
Think it was the first game i brought as a import....that or KiKi KaiKai.
It's my favourite Transformer, Silverbolt. I used to hate high places as a kid, haha. So I can relate, I guess.

Theta_Sigma: I friggin loved the first 2 seasons of Black Lagoon, I still need to get the rest of it.

JKHSawyer: Roberta's Blood Trail is excellent, if you haven't seen it.
Awesome, I'll look into getting it later. Thanks for the heads up. :)

So many awesome stories about peoples avatar origins. :D
Alright, I couldn't help but necro this thread because peoples' avatars have been changing, and new people have been showing up as well. Any more stories from anyone? :D

As for my latest avatar... just a vault boy who decided to grow a beard.
I looked up "Dwarf portraits" back when I was making my account and found that picture, never changed it since.
At the moment, mine is the breakout hit of the Kickstarter campaign for Pale Blue - Baby Shark. When the campaign reached its goal, someone went and woke the artist up at midnight to tell him the news. Befuddled, he drew a creature smashing through the first chamber of their Stretch Goals tube thingie. People took one look at it, and because of the dorsal fin and colouring, they figured it was a baby shark.
My other, which I alternate between is a picture of a Malaysian shaved ice dessert with fruit syrups, condensed milk, agar jelly, dessert red beans and palm seeds.

I've been using my avatar for ages and only this one on all sites with avatars (even G+). To be honest, I can't really remember why I chose it. I looks a little like me when I was younger. Also I consider the Rick Dangerous games as (addicitive) unfair sadistic grinds that promote accepting defeat over and over but also stubborness and endurance. So maybe that tells something about me ;-)
I like using evil-looking cats as avatars. The latest one comes courtesy of a google search for Devil's Cat.
Just a caption that is one of my favorite manga.
Anime fan and Yakushiji Ryoko is the name of the lady that you see as my avatar. As i loved her character a lot, i've made a custom avatar with her.
Well, my name here is Awolnation, one of my favorite bands. So I put one of there album arts as my avatar. :P
I stole it from GOG.
