I would have refused to take the ice cream even before I had noticed the bug.

bansama: Even at home, I generally won't eat sommat that fell on the floor. My wife will, and it drives me crazy every time she does =/
I once saw a guy lick his kitchen floor after he dropped a small amount of uncooked rice on it.

Or the icecream was poisoned.
I'd eat it. Free proteins.

...
I would not eat icream which would kill a bug on touch. That shit sounds dangerous.

maybe, either way i've lost any appetite i had over this and got into a full blown argument with the buyer, i also feel like i could throw up at any second
Just remove the bug and maybe the little area around where it landed and eat the rest of the damn thing. No need to waste a perfectly good ice cream because of a harmless little bug.

keeveek: hahaha :D and what about having that

on your icecream?
Praying Mantis? I'd pick it up and give it to my youngest. She in turn, would take it home and put it in the bug basket she has. Said basket currently has 5 or 6 rather large beetles in it. (As an example: do a Google image search for Rhinoceros beetles)

keeveek: When you're purchasing icecream you don't know if the shopkeeper has crap on his hands because he didn't wash his hands.
That depends on where you buy from and whether they are wearing gloves or not.
Honestly, if it were a simple bug like a bee, gnat, fly, etc. I'd just flick it off and eat it.

You have an immune system for a reason.
However your adventure with the bugged ice cream turned out, it could not possibly have turned out worse than this:

(Clip from "A Pair of Tights"; the dark-haired lady is the wonderful Marion Byron. The whole two-reeler is maybe the best scene of slapstick involving everything that can happen to ice cream, ever.)
Just follow this simple diagram, young padawan

I've eaten bugs before but they've been cooked.
I'd probably knock the bug off and then eat the ice-cream.
I used to be more squeamish about stuff like that before I moved to China
