Interesting, I don't give a flying rat's behind that Neal Stephenson is involved but the concept is very interesting.
Building a framework for semi-realistic swordfighting is something that I think could work. Just like games using Havok for physics for example, they could use Clang for sword fighting.
Definitely keeping an eye on this one.
