Are you talking Gift card or prepaid credit card?. Prepaid (Mastercard) credit card - i made my Wasteland 2 pledge with it and amazon payments accepts it fine.

$325k for that game they referenced seems way too small a budget to consider funding. $500k for LSL seems plausible, especially given the team and the type of game it is. But $325k for an FPS is quite a small budget. I can't imagine them managing to make Doom on that budget.

It's a point well taken, but I think a lot of it is really common sense. The projects I've heard of going bad are ones which I didn't think passed the sniff test to begin with. I think the worst ones are where the developer is well intended but ultimately can't produce the product.

I've funded Code hero, which already had most of the work done, and Wasteland 2 which had some pretty substantial expertise in the area. Same goes for Shadow Run and LSL.

But, yeah, development is hard and going with unknowns is even more risky.

About the risk etc.

You know, when you give 15$ for a game that is really possible, then the risk isn't that much.

It's different when you pledge 1.000$.

I couldn't afford pledging more than 20$ per game, so I'm not worried - most of those games will be finished, and will be good. Good enough to justify spending 15-20$ on them.

My initial reaction was "WOW" when I saw the pictures....then I noticed they looked very similar to something I already know. Did they literally pluck the tileset and sprites from Earthbound?

I do really like Earthbound but this kickstarter game feels like it has no identity of it's own.... :/

Sword of Justice seems interesting. Pledged $25.

There are risks to Kickstarter, obviously, and there are probably quite a few that are just after a quick buck. Personally I only pledge around $15-25 for most games, which I obviously can afford to lose, with the exception of special projects such as Double Fine Adventure, Wasteland 2 and Grim Dawn.

I don't get why Grim Dawn doesn't get more attention and pledges. It's such a promising project, with a lot of meat on it. There is little to no risk to that project.

I'm not surprised. You have Diablo 3 coming out, so that's where the ARPG fans are going. The non-ARPG fans probably won't be interested in Grim Dawn. Those in the middle i.e., willing to get both, or conclude it's more worthwhile to buy GD over D3, are sadly in the minority of the lot.
