AstralWanderer: Kingsport got funded but only after the developers contributed $8,000 of their own money.

While they deserve kudos for being upfront about it, it does seem to undermine the point of KS somewhat.
I agree. The normal way to go about it is to create a new project (and tweak the goal, rewards, etc.) once the project fails. They say that they really needed $28,000, asked for $20k and made do with $12k. That just doesn't sound right.

spindown: I'm pretty sure that this is explicitly forbidden by Kickstarter (for very good reasons).
And yet it happens all the time probably, even openly. Heck the Jagged Alliance kickstarter guys even mentioned that they had already contacted the bank in case the KS wouldn't make it all the way.

Well, technically they probably forbid Creator to fund he's own project. In that case, Creator was Machines in Motion, Santa Cruz, CA, and 8k was donated (?) by producer Andrew Stanek. Technically, it's a different person.

Heck, all they need to do is have the creator's wife do the pledge and strictly speaking there's still no breaking the rule there, but yeah ...

MoP: A Vampyre Story: Year One

Adventure game prequel, by Bill Tiller (ex-LucasArts artist from Curse of Monkey Island and The Dig), 200k goal.
I'm going to be royally furious if this one and Armikrog don't get funded.

Just received this:

"Hi there,

This is a message from Kickstarter Support regarding a recent pledge you made to The Kingsport Cases. Your pledge is being automatically refunded due to self-funding by the creator on this project, which is prohibited on Kickstarter. The refund will be applied to the same payment method you used to make the pledge.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Regards,

Kickstarter"

So looks like KS are prepared to deal with (at least open) cases like this. And GOG's post formatting is broken again. :(

This one caught my eye on Kickstarter and I think hasn't been previously mentioned; The St. Christopher's School Lockdown. Political themed point and click adventure game with choices, consequences and multiple outcomes.

He's pre-empting me of course. :)

Also there are fewer PC games currently than tabletops (yes, the Kicktraq videogame list is longer, but not when you take out the mobile/social/browser stuff).

Is there a renaissance in tabletop gaming then? ;)..

All we need is a renaissance in tables to go with it. :)

Getting back on-track, not sure whether this qualifies as utterly awesome or utterly stupid. Given the lack of implementation details, I'm tending towards the latter but...

A comics project:
Defenders of Eden: Machine or Magic?
Not sure how I missed this, but it's ending Real Soon Now:

The Stomping Land (Jun 6)

They should've found a way to incorporate a fleshlight into the design. That'd have sold like hot cakes.

Was it ever dead? :X

It just so happened though that there were more recommendable tabletop games than usual for that week. Obviously I didn't back all (only backed Road/Kill from that list), but I made sure they're from reliable creators and/or look fun to play.
