JudasIscariot: The site is showing up fine and I see the projects on the page. I guess the problem is on my end as in I was expecting to be taken to another page where I could browse by category, such as "Video Games", and such. Sorry if I raised false alarms.
No worries, that's not quite done yet ;)
spindown: Can you say a few words about how the funding projection feature works on your site? I just looked up the Jane Jensen Kickstarter on your site, and the projected result looks highly implausible to me (I attached a sceenshot). How accurate have your projections been in the past?
Sure. This is something that has come up in the past and discussed in detail on BGG (
http://boardgamegeek.com/article/8849498#8849498). Basically, because of the initial ramp-up of pledges at the beginning of most KS campaigns, projections at the beginning are VERY volatile. I've considered suspending projections until I have at least x-number of days to counteract this.
In terms of accuracy, there's no way for me to really say because the projections are constantly being adjusted based on the current funding level. This is why once it gets out of the initial pledge ramp, the projection will get more in-line with realistic projections.
Finding that sweet spot is something I'm looking at now, but I'm trying to grow enough sample size for projection data to see where that cut-off looks to work best and work backwards from there.
For example, the project you link with only 4 days of data looks to be trending at about $24k a day ($95k / 4). Project that over a 45-day campaign and you get your $1m+ projection. Once the cool-down starts setting in, that projection should come down, but right now I don't have a good model to offset that ramp-up period hence my short-term solution to remove projections until maybe day 5 of sampled data. But, do people care enough about accuracy or would a disclaimer about projections be more beneficial.
The real answer is: I don't know yet! It's all new to me, so I appreciate your feedback! What do you think?
lowyhong: You should start a Kickstarter to fund Kicktraq xD
... the recursive nature of such an endeavor could destroy the universe as we know it. It's not worth the risk!
