Technically not a 'new' project, but the Star Command people are running another Kickstarter to port an 'enhanced' version of their iOS game to Windows and Mac.
Kickstarter is coming to Europe, more specifically to the UK:

Penny Arcade Sells Out

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/575109064/penny-arcade-sells-out

Not directly helping create new comics with pledges, but funding to remove ads on the website which is supposed to free them up to make more comics and offer more services. Also will be under a CC license for a year.
Defense Grid 2, the sequel to Defense Grid: The Awakening.

Their funding method seems questionable, though. They need $1 million to make Defense Grid 2, but the goal is set to only $250,000, which is just enough to create an expansion for Defense Grid 1. If they reach $500,000 they will create a new engine and remake the original game in it. They will also add multiplayer to Defense Grid 1. If they reach $750,000 they will make a map editor and Linux/Mac support.

Finally, if and only if they reach $1,000,000 (which seems quite unlikely to me) they will actually produce Defense Grid 2.

I really like Defense Grid, but I'm not quite sure how I feel about this Kickstarter.

...
I really like Defense Grid, but I'm not quite sure how I feel about this Kickstarter.
This is a bit awkward, indeed. They sold a load of the first game plus have been in humble bundle, would think they would do a sequel by themselves so I'm surprised in seeing a kickstarter. I would want to know what could be potentially included in that new engine before I pledge.

I loved Defense Grid, more than 150 hours into it and I got it for only $ 2.50 on a Steam Holiday Sale. I understand that it's unlikely it'll get to 1 million for the sequel, but I'm more than willing to back it out of love for the game and the possibility of at least an expansion and new features to the original game, like co-op.

Also, they included an explanation for this on a FAQ at their Kickstarter page:

"We put everything we had into Defense Grid; we wanted the game to be able to reach a lot of people, and looking back we probably sold the game at too low a price. It paid for it’s cost, but not enough for us to make DG2 on our own. It takes a lot of money to make games (especially ones with 3d art instead of 2d sprites). We've been pitching it for several years but it's not f2p social (where the money is now in small games), or AAA (where the money is in big games). We still think there's enough interest to be successful, but that's what we're finding out by doing a Kickstarter.

Since Defense Grid shipped, we’ve been working for other folks who look for people who make high quality games – most recently Valve for the Counter-Strike franchise – and that has been great work that helps our team gel even further and allows us to create great game experiences, but it also isn’t going to provide enough to fund a Defense Grid 2. "

And this on the comments page:

And, by the way, we plan on making DG2 someday even if we don't reach the full funding goal here. If we do reach it here, well then that's known, and we're making it and it will happen next year. Nice clean end of story.
If we just get 1/2 way through, say, and reach $500k, we're going to deliver DG:Containment to you, and we're going to deliver the remastered game on the new engine to you as we promise here - we'll work straight on them and deliver them as soon as possible.
And then after that, we'll keep at it, but at a slower pace on our own dime. It may take extra time, it may take us making other games for other people first, but we'll still eventually get to DG2, and when we do, we're not going to forget you. You helped get us there and we'd get you a copy then, but that's a different kind of promise, and we understand that.

Sorry, we're not trying to be misleading. The goal is to make DG2. We could then set the minimum funding goal to $1m, but we figured that would actually concern more people that way. So, we came up with a way that if we don't reach that goal, we're still going to deliver good new content to you. That was the thinking.

Wasn't it part of the IndieRoyale (April Fool's) bundle rather than HumbleBundle? One of IR's standout offerings in my view, along with games like Hard Reset and Weird Worlds.

I'm intrigued by this also, but there's no mention of a DRM-free offering - it all seems to be Steam codes for the moment (chuckled at the boo-boo Hidden Path made, copy-pasting an email in the comments section with Steam codes included!).

Is this serious? I though the PA guys were swimming in money. I don't see the need for this, if ads bother you that much that's what Ad-Block is for.

It appears so. I assume you're using the word "you" generally but yeah, I use Adblock Plus and it's awesome. But some people equate blocking ads with stealing from the website (I wonder if they feel the same about DVRs). This is the reaction I expected though. I can see it rubbing people the wrong way.

Myself, I do hate ads that much but it's more when it interrupts what I want to do, such as watching a TV show and then have to sit through a 5-minute advertisement break.

Yes, I meant people in general not you in particular. Sorry for the confusion.
Added Legends of Aethereus, Jetpack 2, Kaiju City and Defense Grid 2 (which I didn't want to add for multiple reasons already mentioned, but still, it's the sequel to Defense Grid).
Oh ya, added OUYA.

lowyhong: Added ...Jetpack 2....
And now Jetpack 2 has been cancelled and relaunched (presumably making it Jetpack 2 2?) with a lower funding target.

Other changes include digital only pledges (no physical copies) and the option to design your own enemy for $700 - they ask for no vegetables so who feels like stumping up for a Warmonger Watermelon or Brutal Broccoli?

Oh yeah, my mistake, it was indie royale. Hard Reset was superb being in a bundle, yes. Sword and Sworcery too, this one surprised me the most. :-)

Hidden Path is pretty friendly with Valve, the sequel will probably use steamworks or even be tied to Steam.

I suggest Z. It is ending soon, and up till litterally just a couple of mins ago it needed help.

It is an awesome sounding single and multiplayer PC/MAC/Facebook/iOS Zombie card game with all cards earnable ingame, and an awesome RPG style of dungeon crawling card game.
