The topic is the best British TV shows and nobody mentioned "Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister"?

I knew I was forgetting something, but then again I also forgot Fry and Laurie, and a few other good ones.

Catherine Tate reminds me of the ladies from Bennie Hill with the curlers in their hair and rolling pin in their hand, or am I think of Andy Capp's wife.
And my favorite Rose, is your least favorite. With Clara and Amy Pond next in the running (I have not watched any of the pre-Eccleston DW).

I think that's Andy Capp's wife you are thinking of. I think with having watched the show and every companion her luster might wain a bit. I did like Amy Pond but I always did have a thing for red heads, so that is a huge factor in that. I do like that Russell T Davies did name his first companion after THE first companion of the Doctor. That and actually using episodes like Genesis of the Daleks and Remembrance of the Daleks as precursors to his creation (The Last Great Time War). Interesting side note that it is neither the first inter-species conflict the Time Lords ever had nor was it the first cosmos shaking war/military action. :) I recommend reading up on the Time Lords vs. the Great Vampires, it is really a fantastic read, or also the conflict with Faction Paradox.

I'd also have to say that Jeremy Brett was my favourite Sherlock Holmes.

In addition, I'd like to recommend Sharpe and Hornblower, if you have any interest in the French Revolutionary/Napoleonic era.

To be fair it is made mostly in Britain (while on location in a few other countries), is based completely on a British novel whos writer is on board and is mostly an entire British cast. It also received a reasonable amount of British funding. It wasn't that much of a crazy mistake, it is certainly accurate to call it part British.

I'd recommend "Look Around You" the second season.

Actually, George R R Martin is from New Jersey. While you are correct on most of what you said, for example the locations (filmed in Ireland), he is very much an American. I kind of lost faith in the series (though I still love the books), so I'm giving season 4 a chance otherwise I think I might stick to the novels.

I just mixed him up with another author everyone assumes is American (in my experience anyway, I always hear people say) called Neil Gaiman! My fault, I just woke up though :)

No worries, we all have our moments of error. Good god Neil Gaiman needs to do more episodes of Doctor Who...and MOAR SANDMAN! :D

I do like Sandman, although I have only read about half of them so far, but I would rather see some more novels from him first.

I found Sandman gets REALLY good the further on you go. I agree, I would love to see him do another novel with Terry Pratchett...hell I'd like to see an adaptation of Good Omens for the screen, or a game for that matter. That would make for some serious awesome in my opinion.
