I just finished Red Dwarf X and it totally renewed my love for this series. Definitely recommended!

I watched State Of Play, Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes based on the recommendations of this thread. All three were great. What shall I tackle next?

I'm amazed nobody has mentioned "House of Cards" in this thread, which was brilliant.

I am genuinely shocked that people can actually name British TV shows made in the last three years that are not soaps, news items or Doctor Who.
Every time I turn on my television all that appears to be on is USA comidies, even the cartoons are American.

To tell you the truth, the only thing I regularly watch at the moment is Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe
Its like I'm saying
"Hey Charlie, Is everything still shit?"
"Yes, Yes it is, here's some very amusing, deeply cynical jokes about just how shit it all is"
"Ta Charlie, same time next week?"
and then go back to not watching telly again
I AM doing Dr Who right from the 1963 William Hartnell start though - still on series one!

I agree with pretty much the majority of the suggestions in this thread. Here are some extras which I don't think have been mentioned:

- Atlantis (similar to Merlin)
- Inspector Morse/Lewis/Endeavour (detective series - all set in/around scenic Oxford)

I think I also read in the thread some references to Gaiman's work. FYI, he's involved in a new 6-issue "prequel" of the Sandman graphic novels. I've read the first one and it's pretty good.

Something I really got hooked on recently is Vera. Only seen three episodes of the second season (it's one of those "short seasons, full-length episodes" kinda deals; as usual, I started watching just as the local station was ending the run, mumble grumble), but I'm sold.

There's something about the mood and atmosphere (reminded me of Ghost Writer a bit in that regard), the main character (not what You'd expect from a leading detective in a crime drama), and Brenda Blethyns performance that I found almost hypnotic.

So for anybody in the mood for a moody, slower-paced "whodunnit" crime drama, give DCI Vera Stanhope a try.

I watched a few episodes of a show on BBCA a year or two ago that I really liked - How Not to Live Your Life.

We were talking about Chris Morris stuff before and I just realised we somehow forgot the dark, dream-like, surreal and amazing 'Jam' welcome in jam!

I think he was in Nathan Barley too - a satire about obnoxious 'New Media' types, that was pretty good too
