Petrell: So Ubi owns Blue Byte as well? Any other interesting developers/publishers Ubi has bought?

they also hold the rights to the Myst games.

lotr-sam0711: Hopefully this move will get more major publishers interested. Until then it will be interesting to see what other releases we get from Ubisoft's back catalog.

Butt-Head: I hope we get XIII and the Myst series. :)
I totally forgot they owned the Myst series. That would be awesome! Especially since some dude has my trilogy set of the game.
Awesome news!!
Is the Might & Magic series by Ubisoft? Anyway, I'm hoping HoMM2 will make the cut!
Sigh.. More games to add to my ever increasing wishlist from GOG's catalogue..

Zeewolf: I really do hope that Ubisoft won't just limit their GOG-releases to brands that are still active, though for some reason I fear that's exactly what they'll do (partly because of the launch-lineup).

I do have to second this point. looking at what was launched and what is in the pipeline from Ubisoft, it is definately about game franchises that are still active, eg Prince of Persia (new one launched a couple of months ago), BGE 2 is in the pipeline, the Far Cry and the Tom Clancy franchises have recently had some new releases etc. Ubisoft does seem to be cashing in on current popular games rather than delivering true classics.
Having said that, bring on HOMM, and the two Tom Clancy games up for grabs did basically invent a genre.
Ok, and BGE is a classic in its own right.
I do not know if it has been mentioned yet, but I think they also may be able to put out the Anno series as well.
But they may only have publishing rights for the upcoming Anno 1404, I am not really certain.
This... is... EPIC!!!!

chautemoc: I wouldn't be surprised if they're releasing the more popular games first, seeing how that goes, then opening up the more obscure titles for release here. That's what you would do as a businessman, wouldn't you?

Knowing GOG's target audience, I'd do a combination. Unless I was just planning on using GOG to promote current franchises (as I sort of fear they will), I would try to find at least one "forgotten gem" to surprise people and get them excited.
Wow, this caught me completely by surprise! Congratulations, GOG, and thank you for the hard work I'm sure it took to make this happen.
Good news! I remember playing Zombi on the amiga hehe
Oooooh, just noticed something else Ubisoft published, Warlords Battlecry 2, maybe a move towards completing the Battlecry set?

Ah yeah, well I think Heroes and IL-2 are at least somewhat obscure.
Ubisoft is good and all, but I hope to hear some announcements of some older stuff eventually. At first I was really excited about GOG and the idea of bringing back lots of old Windows and DOS games.

Think of this as a foot in the door, they get the popular stuff first because its the stuff that is most likely to sell and prove the concept, once that happens they can root around in the dark corners of the warehouse for cool obscure things

They own the rights to the Might & Magic name, which was previously owned by 3DO, and before that by New World Computing (the developers of the M&M series, who became part of 3DO) - but, I'm not sure if they own the rights to the old M&M games specifically. I'd love to see them here.
Ubisoft, I think, also bought out SSI, publishers of the Gold Box games. If they own the rights to those, we might see them here as well.

Wow, this is a big one. I'll be grabbing both PoP and BGE very shortly. It's also quite exciting to see that GOG's momentum is building so rapidly. Makes me wonder what other major publishers we might see signing on in the next several months.
