And this is why I refuse to use Steam (and Stardock, etc.), and research games for DRM and do not purchase those with egregious DRM. In fact, I buy most of my games right here at GOG these days. Yes, I miss out on some (but not all, I just ordered Mass Effect 2, for example) of the hot games, but I could care less. I detest DRM. Having suffered greatly from it, I will not willingly and knowingly subject myself to it any longer.
Is steam evil? Of course not. They have a perfect right to offer games via their service and I think they are trying to do it right. I am free to vote with my feet and wallet and walk away. You might be fine with it. That's great. To each his own.
Loving GOG and games w/o DRM. And having tons of fun (re)discovering old titles I missed and replaying those I enjoyed long ago yet again. The days of DRM are numbered. It's simple economics as GOG has already figured out. GOG is in the vanguard. They have nailed it. I would never share or upload a GOG game - ever. Because it would not be in my best interests to do so. And the value proposition is such that I have no desire to even consider pirated versions or any of that. Why would I? (I could get pirated versions of nearly every game I've purchased here, and yet I've purchased them still. It's simply not worth it. GOG understood that equation long ago.)
GOG treats me fairly and I will treat GOG the same. Win/Win.
