I honestly expected this thread to be about Tor, and thought "since when was Tor a subscription service?".

kavazovangel: And that's the problem. Many go against WoW. You do not need to beat WoW to be successful.
Well you do if you decide to include it's mechanics. Why do they keep doing that is beyond me, those mechanics suck (next in line: The Elder Scrolls online)

pingu53: I've been playing a few days, hasnt really impressed me yet

its like kotor with WoW mechanics and more grinding
I found it to be very much "World of Starwars", too, during my trial week. I did find it enjoyable enough though and just yesterday caved in and got a copy of the game and a gamecard. Now I'll just have to hurry up and pull an ethernet cable to my tower so I have some time to play with reasonably little lag and higher-than-absolute-minimum graphics detail and resolution before the servers are shut down (a similar thing happened when I got Lego Universe - half a year later the gates were closed shut).

Thank goodness I wasn't the only one. :P
Companies and publishers still try to make it as Big as Blizzard but they fail to do one thing:

Realize why WoW was so successful in the first place and why it's still big to this day

I guess I shouldn't ask what is someone from GOG team looking for there? :P

Smannesman: Partly because I'm a SW fan of course, but partly also because of the story/singleplayer experience which is done better than in any other MMO I've played.
The single player experience was awesome. That is what kept me playing for months. I leveled up 5 or 6 characters, and got two to level 50. I eventually joined a raiding guild and was having fun doing all the hard/nightmare operations. Then patch 1.2 came along (about 3 weeks ago) and it made my sniper the least effective DPS for raids and my mercenary the least effective healer for raids. The patch pretty much sucked most of the fun out of the game for me.

Maybe they have gotten around to fixing the sniper thing; I think the nerf was an unintended consequence of a more global change. However, it is too late for me to go back now. I have unsubscribed and moved on. That is the danger of an MMO; give a person a few weeks (or even days) not playing, and they eventually realize that they don't really feel like playing at all anymore. At least that is how it has been for me in every MMO I have ever played.

Fred_DM: isn't that what happens to every game that tries to go up against World of Warcraft?
Apparently it's even happening to WOW now, it's trying to compete with itself during its zenith and coming up short...

Umm, me three:)

The thread title totally should have had "Star Wars" in it as well to differentiate!

I had the same thing happen for just a second. I figured it out before I opened the thread, though. :)
I knew TOR would fail, just like I knew Star Trek would fail. BiowarEA can barely make a standard game anymore, let alone an MMO.
I'll just stick to NCSoft MMO's...

Absolutely: Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2, Aion, Lineage II, and City of Heros

That's a company that knows MMO

Indeed, except for CoH, that game sucks.
25%? Not bad, compared to Final Fantasy 14.

Personal opinion is personal. That's the game I played the most. Played it for several years, and had a lot of fun. The stories are better than in other MMO's I tried, and it's fast to get into the action, and really gives you the feeling you're a powerful hero at the high levels.
