Gremmi: Hmm, there are quite a few 'action adventures' on there, like Alone in the Dark, Outcast and Little Big Adventure. Not saying they don't belong on the list but it seems silly to make the distinction then include them.

tricksterben: As I mentioned, I've used the genres on GameRankings.com and MobyGames. All of those games are listed as Adventure on those sites and not Action Adventure. Correction: I've just double checked and Alone in the Dark is actually listed as Action Adventure.

I'll remove it, but what shall I replace it with?
I agree that the inclusion of these games or the exclusion of other ones just based on the categories on GameRankinghs and MobyGames seem a bit arbitrary. Little Big Adventure is a great game, but is it really more of a true "adventure" than action titles like Beyond Good and Evil or Psychonauts?

I wrote to the copyright holders to ask them if they consider selling game on GOG, and yesterday they wrote to me that they will look into that.

I think it's a pretty good list. Obviously though, you just can't please everybody.

Regarding Omikron... "Pure" adventure or not, that is one awesome game.

Cool, I could see myself droping $5 to play that game again.

What about Ring World? I really enjoy that game and even read the book.

Thanks everyone for the responses so far. I've read them all and have tried to take everyone's opinions in when editing the list. I have now come to agree with others that a few of the games on my original list do not really fit the bill of what a true adventure game is. I have now removed Alone in the Dark, Bad Mojo, Omikron, DreamWeb, Outcast, the two Twinsen games and BioForge.

In their place I have (for now) decided to include I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Death Gate, Call of Cthulu: Shadow of the Comet, A Mind Forever Voyaging, Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, The Riddle of Master Lu and The Dagger of Amon-Ra.

A couple of people have mentioned the Star Trek adventure games. I've not played any of them, but I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on whether they deserve a spot and if any of them are superior to the rest.

I like the list more already! :) Let's keep discussing! By the way, I'm still looking into some of the suggestions people have made so keep them coming.
Still no Culpa Innata..I'm sad... :(

What about those Runaway -games, or Jack Keane?

Runaway is on the list. :)

While I haven't played Culpa Innata or Jack Keane, neither appear to have received a very good critical response. Anyone else have any experience with these?

ah, apparently I have misplaced my eyes...have you seen them anywhere? :D

Thanks for being open minded! It's a better list now. There are still some huge omissions, though.

I still recommend condensing the major series like Zork 1-3, King's/Space/Police Quest, Monkey Island, Gabriel Knight, Telltale Complete Season Pack, etc. Like you said, you can't fairly single out one game in a great series without mentioning the rest, and condensing them to one entry each would free up a lot of room for other deserving games. Not really fair to give weaker entries in a series their own entry just because they have talented brothers.

There are enough Myst-style games not on the list to justify listing them separately as first-person adventures. They all tend to have a different flavor than 3rd person, whether it's point-and-click or steering someone around the screen with keyboard. So Gabriel Knight series would get a third-person entry, the Zork graphical adventures and Journeyman Project series would be first-person, Grim Fandango would be 3rd person, and Tex Murphy series would be somewhere in the middle, although you could grandfather it into 3rd person because of its point-and-click heritage and all the traditional 3rd person cutscenes. If you made that split, you could do the same for text adventures. More work for you, of course.
As a big fan of the LucasArts and Sierra Adventures I believe the Star Trek Adventures deserve a spot on the list as well.

They deserve a spot on GOG too, but thats another matter.
Still Life, personally... Love the first one, haven't played the second yet.
