God I'm so damn nervous. While not a complete abomination, Thief 3 is massively disappointing. The whole structure was just so ill-conceived and so unnecessarily so, I couldn't help but be like: "WHY? Why not just stick to the individual, sprawling nonlinear levels?"
i still can't get thief 2 to run on winxp.
Guyz guyz there already is a Thief 4. Here's the linky!

Ahh if only there was some website that sold old games that are tailored to run on modern OS'...

My Thief 2 runs beautifully. What problem are you getting?

does the intro video, then quits or freezes, I forget it's been so long I gave up. :(

So it makes it past the intro, but before getting to the main menu, it quits?

I don't remember if I've suggested this to you before, but ddfix should correct all problems faced when running Dark Engine games on modern systems.

Aliasalpha: That said, there's been plenty of good games released since 03, its just a matter of finding them amist franchise rape sequels and endless expansions to the sims

But that's always been the case. There have always been bad games and sequels. Sometimes we played then anyway because there were fewer games released then, but it's never been all golden.
i've only played #3, which was ok but nothing amazing, from what I've heard the two before it are better. The only real good portion of Thief 3 was Shalebridge Cradle... creeeeeeeeeeepy. I thought it could've used a little less linearity though. Thief 4 could be awesome, with great reservations on the could

Quite true, many old games are utter shit but at least they had the decency to be cheap (or on a casette you could tape over). I've been gaming for nigh on 30 years (My release date was between Pong & Space Invaders) so I've pretty much been watching it all my life.
The real problem I suspect is the lower number of games released, the turds are more notable amongst a smaller lineup

When it comes to such specific games like Thief series, 'making a good game' and 'making a good-selling game' are contradictory terms nowadays, IMHO.
I'd be really, really, really surprised, if T4 has such immense, unique atmosphere and playability like T1 & T2.
[and I hated Shalebridge Cradle - I crawled around first part of the map for a good hour and half, only to learn there was completely nothing hostile in the area :) ]

Amen. This level stopped me playing the game for a year or so. I then decided to install and play again only to find that my save games were still there and I was back in Shalebridge Cradle... Fantastic design but genuinely terrifying.
