Elenarie: But how can you call them real games when you just write text? They are real games as much as writing stuff in Word is a real gaming.

Did you really miss the whole point? :) Besides, if you do some searching here, you'll see that I've made a thread stating that I really, really like PlaneScape Torment. :p

tinyE: I think this whole thread is one big missed point. This thing is full of people I really like, people I look forward to posting with and hearing from, yet everyone is at each other's throats in here. I'm getting derepped for my 'enema' comment and I'm guessing people have failed to realize I was referring to myself as much as everyone else. It's really kind of sad.
What I find sad is this need to dictate what people should play or not...

If the game sells, then fine, then there are people out there who wants games like this. Who are we to tell them they should not have them or like them? Does it have any impact on us at all if they do? I would probably not play a game like this, but maybe someone else would.

Things like this is just snobbery. Keeps reminding me about how Adorno kept dismissing jazz and rock as not 'real' music...

I totally agree but I'm not going to argue about it.

What I find sad is that people post something which isn't true and then start arguing vehemently about it. (Sadly, I also tend to take bad assertions at face value too often.)

Elenarie: I don't have an issue with you, of course why would I, when I don't know you. :)

Just with the whole mentality of these elitists that every game has to be made specifically for them.

Licurg: This isn't even a game, it's an interactive movie !
No it's not. Interactive movies have, you know, interaction.

Firstly, no one is "dictating" what people should play or not play. Please highlight a single post by anyone in this thread explicitly saying that.

What I find sad is this silly little naive and idealistic view you and others on the GOG forums carry around, as if criticism of anything is a grave crime because it might hurt someone's feelings and everyone deserves to have their opinion viewed equally even if what they say is full of shit. Because of course everything must be rainbows and happiness with no criticism of any games.

Seriously, the internet is full of forums you might like with ultra-strict Gestapo moderation who make sure all the special snowflakes never have to deal with anything that might hurt their feelings. I suggest you go there, Reddit might be a good place to start.

And as I previously stated in this thread, it has nothing to do with people's individual opinions and what they play, it's about the damage that megabudget "movie games" have on the industry. Please grow up, nothing exists in a vacuum.
oh shit, here we go again.
Deleted because TinyE is right, just continuing to argue about arguing is silly.

Narakir: Ryse looks basically like heavy rain with Spartans... huh Romans... Push X to brush your teeth and kill.
At least you actually had failure states in Heavy Rain. With this game, apparently, there is no consequence to failing, or even an alternative outcome to your battle. The only difference is how fast your progress bar fills up.

The fact that the game did this wonderful "cinematic kill" even when Serells put the controller down on the table is telling.

We can argue about it, just not in here. This thread brings out the worst in people MYSELF included. I feel like a total asshole for everything I've posted in here. Well okay I feel like a total asshole anyway but that goes back to my days as a hitman for the Cosa Nostra. It's not easy to forget or forgive thins like that.

Criticism - that's fine. "the future of modern "gaming"" - that is not criticism. That is blackwashing and hysteria.

Hey, you can have an opinion. I can not. I must go to another forum. Nice.

What danger? That some people may get some games they like, even though you do not like them? Is there a danger that not all games are made according to your tastes?
WRONG WRONG WRONG

This is Hysteria. And a shit record it was.

And really, does anyone seriously think that this sort of thing is going to turn into a mainstream shift of game content across multiple genres? Is the cited example indicative - within just that one particular game - of how that entire game plays out?

Guess I'm having difficulty seeing why this one thing is a big deal. If it's boring for the players then the players will determine, with their money, whether or not we see more of it. The 'problem' solves itself.

Jesus Christ. I come here to get away from petty internet fights.

Do you think making $100 million dollar cinematic movie games is sustainable at the rate budgets are exploding? Do you think it has no distorting impact on the industry in regards to smaller studios and games?

Again, naive, idealistic. Any industry is a finite thing, you concentrate so many resources (people, money) into single megaproject games and studios, you will see less games full stop, not just less mid-budget games but less games in general, as budgets are concentrated.

Also, it's not about "what people like", if you throw enough marketing money at a game, it will sell even if it's a turd. Great deal of "gamers" don't make informed, educated or logical decisions on what they buy, they make decisions based on hype and marketing.

Stop talking as if people are infallible and their "opinions" are completely pure and equally important. Most people are pretty damn ignorant and stupid.
