cogadh: The price already makes the case on its own, along with it not being required for media services, but since no one is debating that fact with me, why would I bother making that case?
Because you're spot on with that, and there isn't really anything to debate about it.

cogadh: Getting a regular game discount on PS4 versus getting nothing of the kind on Xbone is meaningless?
PSN "exclusive plus deals" mean that a game costs $14 instead of $15 which I call hardly meaningful bonus. Especially given how overpriced games are in the store. I doubt the price strategy will change with PS4.
A later quote changed the wording to
“We create the platform. We’ve certainly stated with our first party games, we’re not going to be doing that. But we welcome publishers and their business models to our platforms. There’s going to be free-to-play; there’s going to be every potential business model on there and again that’s up to their relationship with the consumer and what they think is going to put them in the best stead. So we’re not going to dictate that. We’re going to give them a platform to publish on."
That doesn't say to me "playing online only" that says "we have a DRM scheme but we're not using it ourselves it's upto our partners to decide" much the same as MS has said.
Nice, looks like I might actually enjoy playing The Bureau: Xcom Declassified

Has someone mentioned that the PS4 will be region-free? Because it is, I don't know how many people care but for me it might be a deciding factor on whether I buy it within the first year or not.

Yeah this is damned good news for someone like me, I'll save myself a good $100 importing one.

StingingVelvet: Yeah, Sony went to charging and Microsoft started giving old games for free. Now they're identical.
No, they're not identical yet. We still have to see how good the games offered on Live will be. If you sign up for PS+ right now you get something around 7 games, and some of these are much more recent than what Microsoft offered for it's first month (AC 2 and Halo 3, which are REALLY old by now). Last month, for example, Sony offered Sleeping Dogs fee for subscribers. That game isn't even 1 year old yet. Not to mention that PS+ subscribers will get Driveclub for free when it's released.

StingingVelvet: Sony is charging $100 less for the console though, and won't have any DRM for those who care (probably a small minority, but the gaming media seem interested in changing that despite never caring on PC, for whatever reason).
I wouldn't say it's a minority. There is an outrage around the web surrounding Xbox One's restrictions. Even people that are not that much into gaming are aware of it. Even the Xbox Facebook page is completely filled with complaints about it's DRM policy. Just look at it. The gaming press declared Sony the winner just because of that. Even Microsoft fans (like AngryJoe, for example) are bashing Microsoft.

The strong response against the Xbox One was quite unexpected for me. Let's see if this translates into sales.

In my opinion it's a no-brainer: the PS4 is cheaper, more powerful and it doesn't have any restrictions.

JMich: True, about 6 hours ago it was Sleeping Dogs on discount
Sleeping Dogs was free for PS+ members for fuck's sake.

C'mon, seriously, stop twisting stuff and spreading false information, this is getting ridiculous. You've already tried it before.

Read the fucking article before posting crap. Please, just fucking read it. The BS you posted was denied in the fucking article.

There will NOT, i repeat, there will NOT be any restrictions to singleplayer games. There COULD be restrictions on online games, but it's up to publishers. This means that the PS4 is keeping the same policy as the PS3, there might be online-passes, but the game is yours to do whatever you want with it. No always-online and no second-hand block.

This is completely different than Microsoft's policy. You either didn't read the article or you didn't comprehend it. Don't let your fanboyism blind you.

I RTFA thanks and I've quoted the actual article in other threads and the actual quote is close to what I said! They have since back peddled that quote though.

That was already pretty much the case for the PS3, wasn't it? I think to date there's only one PS3 game which is region locked. Did they specifically mention that now also the PSN store will be completely region free? Because THAT would indeed be a change but I can't really believe that's gonna be the case - I'd be really surprised if Western users got a chance to download games which are exclusively available in Japanese.

Users technically can do this with the PS3 and Vita (with some restrictions). I'm not entirely sure about the PS3 (I don't own one), but the Vita can do this (it's just a time consuming process). Just set the Vita to factory default (without erasing the data on the memory card) and set it to Japanese. You have to have a Japanese Account to access the PSN Store (but there are plenty of guides out there to help you do that) before purchasing and downloading certain titles. After you download the games/demos/other kinds of stuff you'll have to set the device back to factory default again (back to English or whatever language you had on before) before opening/starting them up, otherwise they won't work if you play them with the Vita on the language you were using before. After you're done just open/start them up. This was how certain users were able to access the Japanese demos of certain games on the Vita.
