PS+:
* Online Multiplayer (and all the stuff that includes like in-game chat)
* 30+ free games a year
* discounts/special sales on games
* full-game time limited demos
* early access to content
* automatic game updates
* cloud storage for saves
* not required for full console functionality, you can still access the console's other features, like streaming services (Netflix and the like) without a PS+ membership
* $50 a year
XBL Gold:
* Online multplayer (and all the stuff that includes like in-game chat)
* Two free games a month, maximum of 24 games
* Gold membership still required to access all the console's additional services, like Netflix
* $60 a year
Similar, yes, but not even close to the same thing.
