Honestly, I think this console war is already over.
Microsoft won.
WHAAAT???
Hear me out.
Sony allows used games....YAY. Sony doesn't require a connection..YAY. I'm not trying to be dismissive, those are nice features that I wish the XBOX ONE had. But as a gamer, I want to play games.
I think the current tally is Xbox One has 21 exclusives announced, PS4 has something like 10. Furthermore, I think almost all over the PS4 exclusives are being developed by their internal studios, not a bad thing at all, but not really an advantage (those were guaranteed to be exclusive anyways). Where Xbox One is dominating is in third-party exclusives.
Take Dead Rising 3. A popular franchise that was multi-platform being published by Capcom, a Japanese company. Think about that for a second, a Japanese company is making one of their more successful games in recent years exclusive to a console that is not launching in their home market and has traditionally been no existent there.
So why are they doing that? Because Xbox One is a publisher/developer friendly console. Say what you will about Indie games (I love them) but AAA titles sell consoles, and Microsoft, albeit in a seedy way, is in position to dominate Sony in that regard.
Furthermore, lets consider the following statement by Microsoft "It will be up to the publisher if they want to allow used game sales on Xbox One". What that means is that every multi-platform game that comes out for PS4 and Xbox One will allow used game sales on Xbox. The DRM will only be a factor on Xbox exclusives, but that factor will also allow for Microsoft to garner more third party exclusives. Basically, Microsoft has undermined Sony's plan to gain user base by allowing used game sales, because for every game that is on both consoles the policies will almost surely be exactly the same.
So what does that mean? Once again, we're going to come down to exclusive, AAA games dictating the winner of this generation. And Microsoft, in a consumer-unfriendly way, has all but ensured victory in the regard.

What are these big exclusive games you're so interested in? Just curious because I didn't see many.

Though if they continue to regularly give free stuff that makes it a lot better. Hell, Microsoft giving out free games for gold starting next month has me considering a 3 month card if I find a deal on one.

Mad Max's announcement trailer looked cool, as did The Order 1886. There were some really cool looking games shown of Sony's conference.
Also, I know you didn't mention it, but Killer Instinct looks horrible and just made me really sad when they showed it off during their conference earlier. It was never meant to be a Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat clone and that's what they've turned it into. The hud and overall graphics just screamed Street Fighter IV to me :(
Dead Rising 3 I have a hard time looking forward to because it has the aesthetic of every other zombie game out there now, not the somewhat distinct design of the first two games. Yes, it still has the weapon combos, but Dead Rising was never about the gritty, down and dirty look, and that trailer was all about the gritty, down and dirty look.

So why are they doing that? Because Microsoft moneyhatted them.
Once again? Please do the tally for us on 360, PS3, and Wii's exclusives and then how much each consoles sold last gen.

Yeah, Ps4 for 400€, no DRM at all on used games, no always online.
I will take this on D1 I think (if there will be at least 1 title I want, like MGS5 or KH3).

Only part I was interested in :
3:44 amUsed Games a Goby Ian SherrAdd a Comment Mr. Tretton says that the PS4 won't impose any restrictions on used games. That created a huge cheer, and it's definitely a thumbs in the nose of Microsoft. "I guess that's a good thing," Mr. Tretton says.
3:44 amby Ian SherrAdd a Comment Mr. Tretton says it's clear all the best studios in the world are making games for PS4. There are 140 games being designed for PS4 (including third party), Mr. Tretton says, and 100 will be available in the first year.
3:46 amby Daisuke WakabayashiAdd a Comment Here comes the part where Sony goes after Microsoft—you can play used games and you don't need to be online to play games. This is such a role reversal. In the past, Sony was always the one with more rules, restrictions and Microsoft (as strange as it sounds) was more open.
3:46 amNo Restrictions by Ian SherrAdd a Comment Mr. Tretton basically took everything Microsoft has said about the restrictions it's requiring for its games and says he won't do it. Sony won't require daily digital check-ins, it won't have authentication rules, it allows lending of games to friends. And the crowd loves it.

Oh, and the amazing experiences with Diablo 3 and Simcity proved that always-online works really well, right? Right? If there is one thing we've learned from PC games is that we can't fucking trust these servers. They're anything but reliable. On the Xbox One if the server goes down for whatever reason, no gaming for you. Sounds fun, right? I can't wait to see till the servers get hacked. It'll be amazing to see 12 year old fanboys rage at Microsoft because they can't play the latest COD thanks to the servers being down. And i'll be there with a popcorn when this happens.
Oh, and let's not forget that Live servers for the first Xbox were shut down after only 8 years. I'm not sure i can trust Microsoft to keep everything running in the future.
As a gamer, i want my consumer rights to be respected. Microsoft doesn't give a flying fuck about their consumers. Sony at least DID listen to the feedback and decided to rule every BS restriction out. Microsoft is treating it's consumers like criminals. It won't even stop piracy. We all know that if hackers want to do something, they will do it. Now, just imagine this situation: when the Xbox One gets hacked, the pirated copies will actually be much better than original copies because they won't have as many limitations. Funny, isn't it?
EDIT: i just noticed that the new Killer Instinct is being developed by Double Helix, the studio responsible for some amazing games such as GI Joe, Battleship and Green Lantern. Nice one Microsoft. (sarcasm)

Who was the one that said that I was just crying because Microsoft sucks or something and that I was spreading false rumours about the PS4 requiring a subscription for online gaming?
