jdyer1012: Iron Man 3, what will he fight next, more nondescript robots from HAMMER?
avatar
Delixe: I really hope they do better with Iron Man 3. I think for the third movie it has to be someone better than Justin Hammer and Backlash. Ant-Man is also in production so it can't be someone like Ultron and he's an Avengers villain anyway so really that leaves Mandarin.
Iron Man 3, Stark vs. Leap Frog
avatar
wpegg: That's a bit of a production cockup, given how carefully they've scheduled this to do the whole avengers thing. Though wasn't Captin America a later addtion?
I don't believe so. There is also a Captain America 2 scheduled so it's looking like a clusterfuck of movies from Marvel studios. As far as I can remember the actors I listed were all signed for 3 original movies and 3 Avengers movies but of course there might be opt-out clauses on both sides. If Thor and Captain America had tanked they might have dropped the Avengers idea as they nearly did after The Incredible Hulk.

Sorry, I mean't comic wise. Timelines they weren't around at the same time, at least as far as I know.

Stilt-Man. Iron Man and Spider-Man's greatest foe.

Mandarin would work if they cast the right actor *cough*

Yeah, right.

Oh comics. Well yes and no. The first Avengers comics had Iron Man, Thor and Hulk discovering Captain America in the ice while fighting Namor. But then it was Captain America who suggested founding the Avengers so strictly speaking Cap, Iron Man and Thor were the founding members.

jdyer1012: Yeah, right.
If you have seen the Mortal Kombat movie you know he would be ideal as Mandarin. Just don't watch the Tekken movie he was in. There are no words to describe how shit it is.

In the comics, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Ant Man, and the Wasp founded the Avengers after Loki had taken over the Hulk and sent him into a rampage. They didn't find Captain America frozen in ice till issue 3.
The audio does all the selling in this trailer. I watched it at work muted and I ended up a little disappointed because it seemed kind of generic apart from having the bunch of them together, but once you hear the music and the dialogue, it's another thing completely.

I found Thor to be more entertaining than Captain America, even if both had several levels of corny stuff in it. Iron Man never got that corny feeling I got from those two movies, possibly because a suit of high tech armor is the most realistic superpower of the lot.

I'm also pretty excited about this movie and hope it does really well before the superhero fad in hollywood dries up. I also like that Loki pops up a couple of times and you guess he's the main bad guy but you don't really get an idea of what his scheme is. You only know the Avengers finally assemble, some interaction between them and that's pretty much it.

I wonder if the Red Skull will play any part? He sort of vanishes asgardian style in the Captain America movie. I'm kind of against it, but we'll see.

Were they formally the Avengers by then? I admit this is going back to the 60's here and I am going on Marvel guides and Wikia's here lol

They have been pretty good at keeping the leaks down so far. I doubt Red Skull will appear now, if he was to re-appear it would be better in Captain America 2 but I'm personally hoping for Baron Zemo.

The Skrulls have been mentioned but the trailer showed nothing of them and it would make little sense for Loki to ally with them. Marvel also had the Infinity Gauntlet on display at some Thor exhibition and it appears very briefly in Odin's vault in the movie. It would make sense if the gauntlet was Loki's aim and that would make a set up for Thanos in Avengers 2.

Edit: Marvel also have an Inhumans movie, a new Fantastic Four re-boot and a Guardians of the Galaxy movie in the works so Thanos is a good bet.

Hmm... that is starting to sound like scraping the bottom of the barrel. Neither the Inhumans nor the Guardians of the Galaxy have that much of a following and it might be difficult to have people connect with either franchise. Fantastic Four... I don't know. The previous movies were watchable but not that impressive and it's kind of hard to pinpoint what made them not stand out more.

I'd like to see Daredevil done right, with a gritty plot and a decent cast.

BEN AFFLECK RULED. :p

I don't like how they're making Loki super evil in this trailer. He wasn't evil in the Thor film. He wasn't even really evil in the comics. Just a dick.

Delixe: Trailer has been released and I didn't see a thread about it. I'm rather excited now as both Thor and Captain America were good, Captain America especially so. Also looks like Joss Whedon's writing is just what Robert Downey Jnr needs.
What? You mean it won't have a dapper Patrick McNee wearing a fabulously stylish bowler hat, expertly wielding an umbrella-sword-cane and a devastatingly hot Diana Rigg dressed in 60's leather mod fashions? Heresy!

I'd say it's a sure bet that he'll be fighting the Mandarin in Iron Man 3. I mean, come on, with the references to the Mandarin that they put in Iron Man and even Iron Man 2, and given that the Mandarin was one of Iron Man's original principal enemies, I'm sure they're going to find a way to put him in the movies.

Delixe: I'm not sure where that rumor came from as Downey Jnr signed up to be in The Avengers movie before they started filming Iron Man as did Chris Helmsworth, Sam Jackson and Chris Evans. It was actually a part of all the movie contracts because The Avengers movie was always the ultimate goal. The only one who didn't sign one of these pre-contracts was Ed Norton which is why he isn't back as Bruce Banner.

wpegg: I was actually deriving the situation from the end of Iron Man 2, where they stated that the Iron man project would continue, but would not involve Tony stark.
I believe that scene is a reference to the comics where "officially" Tony Stark is merely the Avengers' consultant, therefore concealing his secret identity.

bumpy bump

Just saw the movie (it ended literally 2 hours ago and 14 minutes) and it was simply amazing. Do recommend and hurry up with watching it so I can hear everyone's else opinion.
It's not out here yet. I'm going to the preview session at Friday midnight.
I'm not that excited, but my fingers are crossed.
