As our catalog gets bigger and better every week, it's easy to lose track of some of the awesome games that we have to offer. We've been running one day "Gaming Gem" promos for a while now to highlight some classic titles that don't get the love of some of our best-known blockbusters like Baldur's Gate or Duke Nukem 3D. To celebrate summer, for the next two weeks until July 25th, we're going to run a Gaming Gem promo every day, so you can rediscover these lesser-known classics! Grab that plastic toy shovel and dig out gem after gem over the next 18 days. We think every game we're going to be offering on our Summer GOG.com Gem Extravaganza will be an excellent title, and we hope you give them all a try.

World War II history freaks, get your monies ready! We have something especially for you on the plate today. If you’re a bit tired of reading about the biggest conflict in the history of humanity, why not recreate it on our PC and not harm anyone? In [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/strategic_command_european_theater]Strategic Command: European Theater instead of being a cog of the war machine, you look at the big picture managing armies, negotiating politics, and making all the strategic decisions. It’s a very complex and detailed representation of a table top wargame, where you as the supreme commander of either Allies or Axis forces play through six campaigns from the very beginning of the conflict till its last days. Although this seems to be a game only appealing to “grognards”, the AI lets less advanced gamers play and enjoy the game. With multiplayer options allowing to play over Internet, hot-seat or the old school way “Play By Email”, the ones looking for a bigger challenge will find something for themselves as well.

Strategic Command: European Theater is 60% off for the next 24 hours and can be yours for only $3.99. Get it until tomorrow, July 25 at 5:59 a.m. EDT (9:59 a.m. GMT). If you already own this title or it’s just not your type of game, be sure to check back tomorrow for the last Summer Gem Promo!

keeveek: Is it like Panzer General?
No, the scale and mechanism are not the same. Expect a grander scale and more strategy than tactics ( in my view, too strategic to be fun, although the game eventually proves simpler than Hearts of Iron for instance). The problem is : it's too simple for those who like grand strategy games , it's too little fun for the likers of tactical games (like Close combat for instance )

Just my point of view of course
Boo! One on my wishlist, and right when I don't have the funds for it. Oh well, can't win 'em all.
out of curiosity does this game play like the ROTK games as in some ways it looks similar
I am kinda interested in this game but not enough to jump on it since I now have several gems to play.
If this was Panzy 2 I would have bought it. After reading about the lack of challenging AI in this game I think I will pass on it. Hope the final gem promo is good.

I've just bought every Summer Gem, even the ones I didn't think had immediate appeal. To me, GOG is not just about those old games I played and remember fondly, but the chance to travel back in time and try old favourites that others are recommending. I realise that the frequency of 4-5 star ratings for every game is skewed a bit from what "real" criticism would be, since most of the reviewers are likely people who fondly recall playing the game, and came here to buy it after a bit of Googling, but even so; the fact that someone somewhere has nothing but positives for any given game makes me curious to have it around to try for later. I for one am glad that the Summer Gem promo was run, and that there was substantial variety within it. I look forward to picking up the last one in 24 hours.
pass thanks not my cup of tea.
I'll have to pass on this like I did with all the other strategy games (I'm horrendous at them and I usually don't like to play them unless if there's something that interests me about it). Hoping the last summer gem will be something survival horror. Waxworks, maybe?
high rated

so does anyone know?
I guess now he can take one of them and give it away to someone else, which shouldn't be hard, since he seems to really adore the game. :)
