KneeTheCap: I finally did it, good god. I managed to get the missus interested in playing a god damn video game. I hope the end of the world isn't coming or anything...

...but there's a catch, of course. She wants the game to have romance in it, and I need your help to find a game for her. Do you know any good games that include a really romantic, engaging story arc for the characters? I can assist her with the gameplay, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Terve mieheen! :-) Does your spouse have a strong wish to play a female-to-male romance, or can this be any well written romance?

For female to male, I might suggest:

- Baldur's Gate 2: Anomen.

OK, Ano might be bit of a whiner type of a male with "I have baggage from my family background and I am rather conservative on tops," but there is quite the nice complexity and depth to the romance, and she gets to make a knight out of him, at least.

- Neverwinter Nights 2: Bishop teaser romance (w/ Casavir actual romance as bonus).

Really, for complex, dark flame type of romances, there has never been in my opinion anything better written than Bishop, even if the full romance was cut short due to financing. As such, NWN2 is one of the rare games in my books that is more enjoyable to play as female protagonist, as a matter of fact. And cheers to that. :-)

- Dragon Age Origins: Alistair (for cutely courting type of a man; with baggage), Zevran (for easygoing romance).

Possibly complicated family histories, but really well voice acted and deeply written romances. Alistair is rather the knight in the shining armor type, sort of classic first lover type of a guy.

- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Garth - smart ass kind of a guy, what there is not to like about amiable battle of sexes.
+1 for To The Moon. Not only is it romantic, it will also make her cry her eyes out.
Also Vampires - Redemption is basically a love story isn't it ?

So would be Gabriel Knight if Gabe wasn't a prick.
i would also recommend the mass effect series, starting from the beginning, just based on quality... but it's also possible it could cause an argument if the two of you disagree about some of the series' moral decisions. :)
Seduce Me. :3
My wife and I always enjoyed playing Hide The Baloney...
If you're looking for a list of visual novels to play, I can supply you with a list of great games that she might enjoy. I'll have to compile them along with any other video game in my library that might fit the bill too - just send me a PM to remind me if I forget!
The Sims series.

LiquidOxygen80: Seduce Me. :3
Yeah, it was even too romantic for Steam.
Prince of Persia (2008)
Starcraft.
First thing I thought of was George and Nico in the Broken Sword games (even if he DOES go off with someone else in later games, apparently)

IAmSinistar: The Runaway games here have a good amount of romantic subtext. And she may enjoy the Singles: Flirt Up Your Life series of games, which are kind of saucy dating sims.

Most of the Winter Wolves game focus on romantic plots or subplots, if she doesn't mind anime-style graphics.
I don't recommend Runaway 2. Doesn't Brian cheat Gina with the girl at the bar?
I am looking for this as well. Visual novels? It's popular where I'm from. Somehow.
Gone Home if she doesn't mind lesbians. It's almost completely about the romance after all. Or did you mean that she wants to actively participate in romancing shenanigans? In that case I recommend Jade Empire.
