You still didn't explain what you meant by Viruses ZMac...
OP, I think it has been established this business model and this company are not for you. Time to move to another service and try again. Have a good one.

No idea why I actuall read all 60 posts here. Ugh.
Edit: I know why...the Pacers are pissing me off and needed somewhere else to direct my anger towards :).

Yah...DRM....

Digital RIGHTS management...

The operative word being RIGHTS from my point of view...

If that comes at a price...I would GLADLY have payed for it...and in my case I DID...$20 a month no less...
Wait, you were paying $20 a month for access to DRM-free games?

How would a DRM-free subscription service even WORK?

ZMacZ: Not exactly true...
"So...if you buy $5 a month worth of games...say yes...it won't cost you ANYTHING...
So...if you don't ?...well...free games all around, but in this case I'd like to KEEP the play right to those games
AND have a place to download them from which AIN'T riddled with viruses.."
avatar
Garugo: Fair enough, but I was going more by this bit:

"( $5 worth games a month ain't a lot of money ===> say YES..)
( If you wanna keep these games FOREVER ===> say YES )
( If you don't even spend $5 a month on here ===> Who caress what you think ?? Go nag elsewhere )"
ok ok...

but now from my point of view...

IF the site would cease ==> No more games...or the ability to download them...
IF someone spent less then $5 a month, really, does it REALLY matter ? For the SITE itself I mean ?
Before I go, some of his earlier post were a tad condescending and I think the bulk of us think his idea is for shit, but to his credit he Is obviously reading everyone's posts and is seriously considering them when he replies, so can we please stop derepping him? Please? Thank you. :D

You didn't read it correctly...

I had REAL games, 6000+ (ranging from the VERY old floppy ones to the very new..)
i payed $20 a month in insurance...to keep them safe..

I wanna buy games on here, but I'm not convinced that the games I wanna buy here
will be available, hacker/virus/andwhatelse safe, for download in the long run...

Virus safe.. If CD Projekt RED Backs it, I'm pretty sure it's virus free. Plus, that's why you should use a Virus Scanner! Anyway, I'm done with this thread... it's getting to be pretty dumb imho

That's another thing that confuses me, you paid $20 a month for your games, lost them, and received no compensation. So, why would you want to pay $5 a month here and expect it to guarantee you anything? From the sound of your past experience, I would think that it just shows that even paying for insurance doesn't mean you're guaranteed anything, which is disappointing.

As with all things digital, there's a chance the service could go down at anytime. Hell, people have been questioning that of Steam since its inception years ago, but you just take your chances and enjoy the games while you can. It's a risk that the individual needs to determine if it's worth it or not. I just don't believe a $5 subscription fee is the answer.
No, the point of this site is to provide DRM-free games. Once a game is the user's hard drive, gog no longer has control over the file. To add a subscription service would mean that anybody can just download all the games and keep them forever. Under gog's current system there is no drm. People come to this site for a variety of reasons but gog's main selling point is no drm. To add a subscription service would be suicide for gog:

1) they would need some form of drm to control how long the user can play the game and then cut off service once the subscription has expired
2) They would need to renegotiate the rights to their games
3) This would open the door to more restrictive drm
4) Identity suicide, being DRM-free is Mr. Gog's main identity
5) This would alienate their userbase because of #4

Completely agree. Yeah, his ideas are definitely not at all welcome here, and he could be a little bit nicer, but I don't get the feeling that he's trying to be malicious/trolling.

So instead of downrepping him, just try to argue with him, and give him counter viewpoints.

The subscription would stand for the guaranteed operation of this service...
And you'd get games for it.....so if people would pay this site would STAY operational...

And yes...STEAM...I have an account there too, and if I would have taken the time to register all the
games I had on there, I would have kept at least 30-50% of those...

It's like so...if you'd have a 1000+ games collection on here, would it be worth $5 a month just to keep them ?

In my opinion..YES...
Curious about something....can someone from Netherlands ask the OP some questions about the Netherlands that are not easily google-able and would be known by someone who lives there?

If this sounds silly, feel free to ignore it and I apologize. But like I said, something (actually a couple things) in this thread has struck me as curious and I'd really like to know if anyone, even the OP, would be willing to indulge me.

Hmmm...also...

Did I leave out the part that says it was optional to subscribe ?

In other words, if you don't have anything to lose you wouldn't have to subscribe..

Also...STEAM nowadays is 'economizing' by removing games from their catalog...
Imagine my surprise...
