I personally think people are jumping the gun on this. Just because Steam is not on the list of initial DD"s does not mean Steam won't get the game. Steam didn't get Alice either until vastly after the rest of the retailers, but they did get it, and that was after Crysis 2 was removed.

At this point it could still be on steam I think, unless they really push through with whatever happened with Crysis 2 (for their own purposes or whatever).

Personally, if they want to go head to head with MW3 the last thing you want to do is alienate a part of your possible userbase. And that *is* what will happen. Sure, there's going to be a good number who might buy it anyway (more likely retail than origins), but there's also going to be a sizeable number who chose not to or to wait till it's on Steam if/when that happens.

When you want to go head to head with your main competitor, in the same month, you want every person you can get.

Also, at the last big convention they were at (E3?) I'm pretty sure they mentioned they were going to compete by having 'limited editions' exclusive to their own store. Which would seem the most obvious thing to do, and does not exclude participation in other DD stores.

I think they're just trying to keep pre-orders out of Steam's hands for now until the game almost comes out.

Why would anyone uninstall Origin because one game didn't get a patch? There are many games on Steam that don't get patched, yet I don't see you suggesting people uninstall Steam.

And this is the problem with your point. You're considering the part of EA that runs Origin to be the same as that responsible for Alice. Unlike Steam, where Valve mix n match their employees so that those responsible for games are also responsible for parts of Steam, EA do no such thing.

While there may not be unpatched Valve games (which is debatable considering the bugs in Blue Shift that are yet to be patched out - such as the elevator bug that cause the game to be unplayable), there are plenty of third party games that remain unpatched on Steam even when the responsible third parties send patches to Valve (the most notable being Jagged Alliance 2 Unfinished Business which was never actually patched despite being sold in an unplayable for state for almost 2 years, but eventually replaced with a "gold" version instead).

so we argue with a game blue shift that was released in 2001 vs Alice which was released last month nice, lets hope that the debate helps people out in deciding steam vs origin
oh it will interesting to see which third party signs up on origin

I love the way you choose to ignore the fact that the part of EA that handles Origin is complete different to the developer of that game and yet focus on the age of a game that is still being sold by Valve in a buggy state as if that makes it acceptable...

does that really matter which part of ea handles what? in the end you end up having games on origin which are not supported by ea even for a bug fix
i never came across this bug on blue shift, going to start a new game and see what this bug is about :D
oh the mega awesome bug disappears if played on open gl mode :D which is the way hl1 games are to be played for smooth fps
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1908883
so much for the unplayble part? now on ea?

Blue Shift didn't launch on Steam, Steam didn't exist when it came out. I have a boxed copy, still.

EDIT: And Valve support staff has a rep for being a bunch of tools, last victims of an erroneous VAC banning were treated like shit by staff by all accounts. If you think Valve has some special place in its heart for you you're most likely mistaken.

Azarr: More or less, I think. Haven't really looked up the differences though. Perhaps EADM trying to be Steam.

gyokzoli: Nothing changed when EA renamed EADM to Origin.
Did anything change when they renamed EA Link to EADM?

there is no love for the pc gaming as long as drm model exists, hmm you are right blue shift came out way before steam was even launched.
hmm i can be forced to use origin if they decided to put all ea classic games there like roadrash, nfs games before most wanted ...

How about Half-Life Source, which is totally broken to a point which makes you unable to finish the game? And they sell this game...
