I guess so.

Also, it's finally happened. A regional restriction has been lifted on Impulse. Call of Duty 4 was US only until earlier this week and is now available worldwide.

It's a good start, if nothing else.
Gamestop? Doing good?

I'm... shocked.

Anybody would have done a better job than Brad Wardell and the bunch of morons he hired for PR and support. At least the people from Gamestop are trying to make money for which they have to gain customers. Brad Wardell only cared about his ego.

That pretty much sums it up. Getting Brad out of the picture seems to have been the right move. Of course, they still have a long way to go to becoming a decent service for international customers. It's just nice to see some proof of them actually taking the baby steps to try and get there.
Bloody bump.
Fucking Steam and Impulse. Both piles of shite.
Steam sucks ass! Impulse too!
Using this old thread as there's no point in making a new one for the same thing.

The recent Steam Dev Days revealed that Valve will be introducing Yen pricing to Steam in Japan. And that will fucking suck. Not only will we be permanently stuck with a shite exchange rate (best case), we'll be lumbered with local pricing (worst case).

What does this mean? A $10 dollar game will now cost $30 to $40 (based on Terraria pricing - lower being PSN digital, higher being physical) and a $15 game will cost $50 to $60 (based on local PC release of Mars War Logs). And AAA games? Publishers love to specify "Open Price" as the RRP. What does that mean? In theory it means stores get to set whatever price they want. In practice this means stores set a minimum price of 10,000 yen (approx $100) - a price that never drops there after. We already see that on Steam with Square games priced at $80 and no price drops, COD games priced at $80 to $100 with no price drops and so on.

And that's not even taking into consideration the increase in regional restrictions (or which Japan already has the highest number of) that will result. As seen with the introduction of regional pricing in Russia and Brazil, both regions lost games while devs/pubs took time to agree to new pricing. Problem with Japan is that Valve don't even release games they're supposed to here. So if a game is restricted due to change in price, they likely won't release the restriction at all. So I guess Japanese publishers will finally get their way. They will effectively kill off PC gaming in Japan once and for all. Yeah, I'm pissed off over this -- especially given my boss screwed me out of over half of my yearly earnings so prices sky rocketing up, available money falling just as quickly.

No, we didn't lose anything. I don't know about Russia, but here in Brazil the availability of the games hasn't changed at all after the introduction of regional pricing. The games that are not sold here are the ones that weren't sold before regional pricing (Bully, for example, which is banned here in Brazil). Nothing has changed.
Ooh, that is so cute, I was protecting Steam 5 years ago already! See? I've ALWAYS been like this you newcomer bastards!
