soulgrindr: *snip*

It would only work if you also had a US based billing address for the payment method. If your billing method doesn't match with the country that Steam thinks you're in, purchasing won't be possible.
I don't know what server I was connected to as the downloader is very light on features.
Generally, if it's slow on GamersGate, it's either due to high load or you being on the servers furthest from you.

DelusionsBeta: Bought StarCraft 1 (with Brood War) for 5 yesterday. It came in a box with the 2 CDs (that's right, Blizzard didn't bother combining it onto 1 DVD, despite demanding both to be installed in the same install) stacked on top of each other, so the only way to get at the Brood War disc is to remove the StarCraft disc. Give me one of thouse flappy disc holders in a box (like the GameCube's multiple disc games) any day of the week. Hell, I'll take the Orange Box style of multidisc management (where one disc is in the usual spot, and the other is in a plastic sleeve in the manual holder). However, the less said about Rome: TW Anthology's box, the better (3 discs stacked on top of each other, it's bloody awkward to remove them and the disc checks demand the right disc is used to run each expansion. Sheesh).

You installed the game from the discs? Thats just wrong. :) Use the serial to register SC to your Battle.Net account, then from there you can download the most recent installer that was made for SC. Its version 15.1 or something. After installation, log on to bnet from the game to download the latest patch to get the game up to date and insure compatibility with Games Explorer for Windows Vista and Windows 7.
By the way, which OS are you playing it on?

You don't even need to logon to Battle.net from inside the game, I download the game yesterday and it was directly the last version : 1.15.2. Another good thing is that the downloaded version is DRM-free.

XP, currently (hoping to buy a Windows 7 laptop soon). Hence, no problems with the actual disc and no Games Explorer to worry about. (I prefer the Steam client for game organising duty, but that's just my option) When I did install it, I headed to in-game Battle.net, where I was hoping to get the download version. After patching up, I was presented with a warning that upon registration I must put 2 hours in my first 48 hours after registering, or they'll nuke my account. Since I've literally just bought StarCraft, ergo I would get my ass handed to on a platter, I backed out.
Later on, I found out that the download stuff requires an account in Battle.net 2.0 (large difference. Battle.net 1.0 is the in-game online service for the pre-WoW Blizzard games, similar to WormNET in Worms Armageddon & World Party), which I have created and registered the game. The original install is OK, however, so I haven't bothered testing the download yet. Yet to find the options menu, however, and I'm craving a fiddle with the options menu (rule no.1 for any software: fiddle with the options).

Thats not the latest version. 1.61.1 is and it can be obtained only via the in-game battle.net. :)

I have the discs too, but I prefer to install it via the downloadable installer, mainly because its more up to date, and I use Windows 7 x64. But if you're on XP, thats probably not necessary. Anyway, have fun with the game. :)

My misake then, I thought 1.15.2 was the latest one.

One thing though, I've seen different websites offering different changelogs for this patch, and also some of them have it labeled differently, some "patch 16", some "patch 1.161"... so it would probably be best to download it through the game.
Half the public internet is unavailable to me, either the ISP broke a config in a switch somewhere, a router is dying, or a cable has been cut by someone digging at the wrong place.
First I thought my connection had gone down and the computer was just late to realise that, then there was a new message on IRC, so I was definitely online. Switching the DNS settings back to automatic seemingly made it work, so I thought maybe OpenDNS had broken, asking on #gog made apparent that it was just me that couldn't access their servers, either by hostname or IP address.
Often I can access the main domain of a site, while others like image & css hosting or ad networks are broken, making the browser stall while it tries to access those servers before timing out. Luckily GOG, quakenet, and freenode are fine :-)

akwater: got that dotp mtg game... wont load keeps crashing....tried a bunch of things to try and fix... yet has not worked thus far....
Well... it looks like on the boards others are having issues as well... a lot of issues... So... guess no more buying any of the expansion packs, nor any other WotC games...
oh well...
FUCKING STEAM!
You know what I hate more then anything in the world??? Not being able to buy shit when I wanna buy shit! Lol....
"Your billing address doesn’t look like it matches up with your current country. Please contact support for assistance or use a payment method registered to your current address"
My current address is a Hotel in Pattaya, why oh why would I change my billing address to Thailand when tomorrow I will be in another country?

Currently Duels of the Planeswalkers works for me, but the registration doesn't, so of course I get told to contact Wizards support, and of course they don't help me get the voucher to take into the store which is 20 minutes away for the promotion. What they do however is mail me the card, internationally, clear to the other side of North America. So of course I don't actually have the card yet, and apparently they aren't giving me the deck that you get with the card for the promotion.
Other than that the game works fine for me.
Steam Vs. Battle.net, FIGHT!

Hello, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Our records indicate that your purchase was declined due to your current IP address differing from what is on file with your billing information. We have removed the lock on your account - you will now be able to purchase additional subscriptions. Additionally, please try your purchase again by launching Internet Explorer or Firefox and using this link: http://store.steampowered.com/?cc=sg Please let us know if you have any questions, or if you encounter any further difficulty.

Fuck yeah Steam does it again.

I think it's inevitable. It's a money-making oppertunity to obvious for ActiBlizz and Bobby Kotick to miss. Then this forum will pine for the days Steam was market leader.

lowyhong: Fuck yeah Steam does it again.

I've found calling my bank to Change my address to reflect the country I am currently in at that exact moment to work halfway decent, however my bank is kinda like wtf..... seems like a lot of work just to buy a game...
Thank's steam for giving the option to use Cloud or not use cloud...... Seriously, I mean I only play on one of two computers and half the time I am not online :)
However my new gripe... The hours played, could ya give an option to either completly not show hours spent in games or give it some kind of offline counter. Cause I normally play offline and it looks like... I dont play anything at all....
i hate the 3D trend ( movie,TV,games)
Oh this is grand. >=)
Situation: I am nice and spend a few minutes a day helping those with problems on Gamersgate in the Game Tutor section. (Not for free and the status rep, of course. /sarcasm), And apparently this IDIOT thinks I am an actual Gamersgate Employee:
Yesterday 01:25 am by MORON:
Where is the Disciples 3 manual?? No PDF, no .Doc file? I can't find it anywhere... where is it!
Chris
Yesterday 01:31 am by Deadengel666:
Check My Games on your account and see if there is a manual. If not, checked the installed directory for it. If THAT doesn't work, google the .pdf file on the web. Good luck.
Yesterday 01:46 am by MORON:
I've done all of that BEFORE writing to you. I need the manual that actually ships with the game.
I don't think it's too much to ask.... Good Luck? Are you kidding?
Please just provide a game manual for the product I just bought. I could have gone into a store and gotten a hard copy, but this just seemed easier. But no manual for a strategy game? That's not easier ... it's a PITA.
So again, where's the manual for Disciples 3?
Chris
AND NOW, for the climax:
Today 07:08 am by Deadengel666:
Um, you are aware that I'm not a member of Gamersgate's team right? Don't get mad at me because this game you bought is DIGITAL, not a retail copy. If you are going to complain, buy an actual physical copy. I'm just a user of this site, like you. Do your research before posting in this part of the site next time...gosh, moronic...
I should have said "We at Gamergate would like to say Go fuck yourself." Best day ever.
This concludes my bashing of retarded DIGITAL RETAIL CUSTOMERS WHO EXPECT A FUCKING PHYSICAL MANUAL.
