" It'd be awesome if developers embraced this solution instead of Steam, PC gaming would only benefit from such a move."
Unfortunately, more and more developer running after the big money = Steam.

AndrewC: The Escapist published a nice and balanced article called "Steam: A Monopoly In the Making" which can be read here.

Great article! Thanks for the link.
Fuck and cock, the download speeds off Steam are SO GODDAMN SHITTY.
I was going to get Empire:TW down, but it's 16 GBs and Steam has apparently decided to cap the download speed at about 250 Kb/s.
Earlier, I was getting speeds of like ... 20-30 Kb/s on Hearts of Iron III.
Just Cause? 300 Kb/s.
I set my download region to Norway, then to Sweden, then to fucking Germany or whatever, then back to Norway ... no apparent change at all. And this is on a 100 MB connection. From GOG.com I can have 5 concurrent downloads of 1.5 MB/s, no problem.
FUCK.
Steam needs more local content servers.

lackoo1111: You don't need to redownload the game, just to install an update.

i know that, but Impulse did that once or twice some time in the past. i don't use it much right now, so i don't know if that's fixed or not.

lackoo1111: Archive application tab in the right click menu of Impulse.

missed that one, but i can't check it right now.

lackoo1111: Have you heard about Impulse Tray?

a year ago when i installed impulse there was no such thing as impulse tray :) i know that it's been added a few months ago. i'd rather think that - like in the Steam client - clicking close would minimize the program, not that i have to launch the program using some other applications. that's strange you have to launch the Tray application separately just so you can have the tray icon.

Crassmaster: These days? Probably not.

Now that you mention it, i think Postal 3 will use the Source engine. Might be wrong though

Yes, you're right.
But aside from Valve games, it isn't utilized much. Just Postal 3, Dark Messiah, some modders games like The Ship and Zeno Clash, and the failed Sin Episodes. Plus two or three more obscure titles in development.
Oh brother.
Impulse is late as usual. They now releasing these:
Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold
Blake Stone: Planet Strike
Rise of the Triad
Duke Nukem 3D
Duke Nukem Manhattan Project

Bah, we filthy foreigners are lucky that we can buy it at all.
Quite a few games on Steam are inexplicably unavailable in certain countries even if you can buy those very same games from a store within driving distance (for bonus points, find a game that is unavailable through Steam but uses Steam for DRM).

I love it. No attempt to even hide the fact that $0.99 = €0.99. I am sure Bobby is rubbing his hands in glee at the moment. Or rubbing something else probably.
Impulse started to copying GOG.
New release:
Seven Kingdoms II $14.99 !!!
