There's no point in discussing religion, especially on the Interwebs.
However, there is a point in bashing college papers. They can be so damn huge. Some are pointless. Most are tiring.
I also want to attend Creative Writing, but that's on the fourth year... I hate having advanced English talents sometimes, it makes me realize how much time I'm wasting at the moment. :(

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Is it the duty of the atheist to disprove every ludicrous concept that others spew? No. With the amount of bullshit that human society concocts, we'd never get anything else done of we did.

Seriously, I get one every second week. Damn this Bologna. My best buddy is studying Law, and he's practically doing nothing. No wonder our government is corrupt to the bone. :/

I am three weeks into my latest class and just finished a 35 page paper called "Project 1." Now I am starting "Project 2" to be completed by next week. It only has about 10 pages of instructions to follow! :o)
Oh, Project 3 and 4 are coming soon, since the class only runs for 8 weeks.

that reminds me of when I was studying at university. Our course had the highest paper use in terms of raw materials (that's a hell of a lot of photocopies), had basic exams once a week and larger exams once every four weeks, then even larger ones during the official examination period -- when the rest of the university course were holding their exams too.
We also had a high drop out rate, in the first year there were 86 students enrolled in the course. By the time we graduated four years later, there were only four of us left. I think we were the only four people at the entire university who actually studied =P.

you guys should go to japanese universities. If you can pass the entrance exam, you're basically set. You might have to attend an hour or two of classes per week, or take a few easy exams from time to time... but that's it.
and after you've got your job arranged in the 3rd year, you can basically forget about uni and concentrate on working the the convenience store 5 days a week to save some cash.

I remember reading an interesting article a few years back on why school/uni is terrible preparation for work life. One of his examples was that papers are always set based on LENGTH. Whereas in the real world, if you gave your boss/investor a 35 page report he'd kick your ass. If you can't say it in one page, it's probably not worth saying.
At least that's what he thought.

I did. And if you're actually serious about getting anywhere you still have to study. The "not studying and partying" lark only applies (unofficially) to lazy Japanese who don't really care where they work in the future or foreigners on a very short stay.

You should try my meds. Sleeping 15+ hours a day, dry mouth when waking, groggy as hell for about an hour, no energy at all... :(

Hehe, I write 20+ page papers daily. Then again, the DoD needs justification on everything, I recently wrote a 89 page memo for record about fob closures, and how it will affect each city where bases are near. Sigh............ I hate my job.

I can see what the article is getting at, but I think he's looking at it the wrong way. University is not meant to duplicate an office job as practice.
Professors assign essays because they want to witness your thought process as you explore and explain the topic. They want to see you cite your sources, describe your knowledge, analyze lines of inquiry, and basically justify your grip on the ideas in the class. They want big long papers because you need that kind of length to show *everything* you've learned how to do in the class. Your grade is based on some potion of *everything,* after all.
The boss wants the bottom line, though. Brevity.
To get to brevity, however, you first have to slog through the lengthier part that builds your understanding. After you have understanding, you can pare down the bits that don't matter.
University shouldn't be practice for The Way Your Boss Wants It. That's what company orientations are for, because bosses are fickle creatures. A good university will give you the mastery to adapt to any need in your field, though.

It's utter hell trying to deal with the fact some games if I try to buy them legit can't be shiped to Iraq COD4MW for one, Amazon wont ship it here. Yet I can go down to Haji-Mart and buy a copy for less then a buck. WTF. Sigh, sadly if you wont sell me your game or it comes with DRM, I can spend 10 minutes walking to Mr. Habibies shop and ask him to get me a copy come back in 3 or 4 days and get it.
