Basically, people with copies of WoL or HotS now can 'spawn' friends with Starter Edition to be temporarily upgraded (as long as your friend is in a group with you) to WoL or HotS editions and play multiplayer with them.

Well with the starter edition you could play online just not be in a party. Now you can be in a party, which only makes sense.

Blizzard always did have pretty decent promotions like that.. haveta commend them for that

Edit: I only played SC 1 not SC 2

Yes, but SE was limited to a select number of maps. Now with this, you can play with your friends on maps that are not enabled for SE by default.

"Players will be able to access ranked and unranked play for 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 matches as well as all custom games and mods in the StarCraft 2 “Arcade.”"

Surprised no one posted this sooner. It is quite a nice feature and hopefully blizzard will have more premotions that invovle unlocking other races in the starter edition since spawning is limited to Terran. It does make sense that they limit it to one race but it was really good when they had all three races unlocked when they first introduced the feature.

They probably will unlock the Zerg soon, seeing that HotS focuses on them... and my guess is that they'll unlock the Protoss when LotV gets released.

Didn't someone try to organise one once before? I have no idea what happened with it through. But now that we have global play and spawning there is a lot more options for people to play in one. (Wonder how much lag I would have on EU?)
