First, THANK YOU again for all of those that helped me score manuals yesterday. And for those that accepted game codes, I really hope you enjoy them. Gaming is my life now, and I mean It when I say I hope others enjoy it because there really are some fantastic experiences to be had out there in the gaming world.
I was immediately impressed with Drakensang when I dabbled with it a bit, especially the depth of character and even the depth of gameplay with so many rolls being made for so many interactions in the game world.
IMO in that sense, it's literally one of the best RPG's I've ever played.
But after playing it almost all day today, it does have its warts too.
For me the "controls" are "clunky". Now, it's 100% mouse driven, so how on earth could those controls be clunky. Well, it's hard to explain, but plain old movement in the game world is actually a chore that has rubbed me all day. The controls are like Divine Divinity (IIRC, point to a spot, and they move to it, hold down the right mouse button and rotate the mouse to change the view).
But it just doesn't work well in this game for some reason., for me. When I zoom up and overtop of the characters I keep clicking on "myself" instead of a spot to move, and when I zoom out it feels like I can't see very well.
It's probably my fault but wanted to share these thoughts and see if others had any similar or opposite reactions to the game. I still think underneath those "clunky controls" this is one hell of a game, so I don't want to miss it if I can help it. FOr the last couple of hours I've been using the w key to move forward and then just "steering" them by holding down the right mouse button and rotating the mouse. This feels a little smoother, but still feels like more of fight then it should be.
So, what are some of your thoughts?? Would it be worthwhile to program my controller for this game? I'm not even sure I would know how to do that, but I may figure it out. As I said, the game itself, and the story so far, give me the impression this game is worth the extra effort. What say you?
