How can you guys post about the humor in the early versions without mentioning the guys taking a piss outside in version 2??? My god I lollered when I saw that the first time. And they would piss for like 10 minutes!!!

The funniest thing was just an accident, but I laughed so hard tears rolled. In my first playthrough of 2 I was a merc. And to be a merc, you had to..... prove yourself. By beating others in fights.

So, when I get back into the penal colony area, another guy picks a fight with me. And I beat him. And I take all his stuff when he's down. But it turns out after you whip his ass he wants to join you and help you. So, I took him on. The first fight was against those T-Rex looking things, what were they??? Anyway, they were tough.

And this dude runs up to a whole mess of 'em, with no sword or anything cause I took it, and he's just punching 'em and they're tearing his ass up and he's OWING and moaning and somehow he survives. Then he does it again, and after the second time he comes up to me and says "I think I'm gonna need more money to keep doing this."

OMFG!!!! I laughed so friggin' hard I couldn't play for five minutes!!!!!! Still the funniest encounter I think I've ever had in a game. Yeah, I guess you do need more money, you damn idiot.

God that was funny.

PMIK: Gothic 4 does not exist
That's what people said about #3 and I'll bet at some point people said that about #2

I actually liked it as a hack-n-slash game, it's just a bad RPG. It falls victim to the common idea that sequels need to be the same kind of game as their predecessors, and it wasn't.

ovoon: ...And Gothic 4 was personally an enjoyable game, just not a Gothic game...
^This. It's a pretty game but it didn't hold my interest for all that long. I'll have to give it another shot some time :)
Not sure if I agree about the "best" bit, but I liked 4. Got the add on through steam and will probably start playing it soon. overall much less freedom but still a nice little story and the gameplay was fine.

3 is my favourite though, rock hard but open, choices to make and fun to be had
Heathen.
So you didn't like the fact that in Gothic 1 , you were treated like a scumbag and a newcomer ? And you'd sometimes get betrayed during the quests ; and that you also had to figure out the lcoations using rational thinking and exploration and trial and error ?

You realise , those things are what made the game great ? It's realistic , but I see you want more linear and streamlined boring quests :
Go to A , kill 10x B and come to C . Here's your gold for helping me kind sir , I love you .

I take it back , if a great game is bad for you then you are the "broken" one . :)

Yes because infinite storage is so realistic get a fucking clue. I mentioned several times it's not the fact that game doesn't hold your hand it's the fact that game DOES NOT want you to win. It's want you to quit. Again I bring up Demon's Souls which kills you in the first 20 minutes and takes half your health away because you don't deserve it, but it takes it away so you'll be pissed off enough to do whatever it takes to get it back. Gothic doesn't want you to get it your stuff back and it's not that people lie to you so you'll walk into a trap, they're specifically vague in most cases because the game doesn't feel like telling you what to do. And realistic because people don't tell you where a quest is? Please, if a fucking monster ripped your arm off and all you thought about was revenge... you'd remember where it attacked you because realistically you'd want to rip it's arm off. In conclusion the game is not realistic and if you think it is you are delusional.

Also, you use the word broken and I have 1 word to prove that it is. Controls.

The only thing that is wrong with Gothic 1's controls is the fact that they require a fare amount of getting used to. Once you know how they work, and feel comfortable with them, they work really well.

Well there's also the targeting system which is god awful, but the point is that they aren't good, sure you can get used to them the same way someone gets used to the the surf board in Silver Surfer. Doesn't mean they are good but yes you can get used to them and I think gothic 3 fixes them? can't remember

Gothic 3 has radically different controls, though in my opinion they were worse. And I actually liked the Gothic 1 & 2 controls, and do consider them to be good, though it took me ~1½h to reach the point where I felt comfortable with them.

Mhmm also what is it with the Gothic series and it's weaker expansions? Like every single expansion is always received drastically lower than the game was...but yeah you can get used to them but I hate walking in town and targeting someone and then like moving around to stop
